Sign up for our Member Soda Firing and Potluck
All studio members are invited to sign up for this fall's member soda firing and potluck.
We will hold an orientation for glazing and wadding on Tuesday, September 29 at 5:00 pm. If you have not taken an Atmospheric soda firing class, this glazing orientation will be required.
We will load the soda kiln on Tuesday, October 6 at 3:00 pm. The kiln will be fired on Wednesday, October 7. We will unload it on Sunday, October 11 at 2:00 pm. Afterwards, we'll have an all-member potluck. You do not have to have pieces in the soda firing to attend the potluck. Partners and spouses are invited to the unloading and potluck.
We ask for a nominal fee of $20 to help defray the firing costs.
Enrollment is required to participate in the firing.
The number of works allowed will be determined by how many members enroll.

Studio & Gallery Hours for 2026:

Student Studio Practice
There are no open studio hours on Thursday. Saturday open studio hours begin at noon, with the exception of one Saturday a month, when the Try It Once on the Wheel class meets from 1:00 to 2:30 pm. Check our class schedule for the date of this class.
Please remember to sign in when you arrive for open studio and sign out when you leave. Make sure to clean your work area thoroughly before leaving.

Pick up your pots! Pick up your bisque ware and glazed works. All July bisque ware will be discarded on September 15. All August bisqueware will be discarded on September 30. Please be sure to pick your works up before these dates.

Specifications: Fired Shrinkage is 12%, and Water Absorption is .5% when fired to cone 10. Great for dinnerware. Warm orange-brown, very smooth.

Studio Internship
We're interviewing potential studio interns for the autumn to help with studio maintenance in exchange for studio use. The successful applicant should know how to mix glaze, load kilns, mop floors, and perform other typical studio duties. An internship is a great experience and a resume-building opportunity. 5th Annual Art Takeover Project is a month-long celebration of art, creativity, and community throughout Downtown Grosse Pointe. More than 80 artists will showcase their work across 38 Grosse Pointe Village locations, welcoming thousands of visitors to explore, discover, and support local creativity. The kickoff event is September 3 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

Functional Fall: Handled With Care - Clay Art Center presents the fourth Annual Functional Fall Exhibition: Handled With Care, guest juried by former Artists-in-Residence Lindsay Scypta and Mike Stumbras. The exhibition features small- to medium-scale handmade ceramic works that celebrate surface, decoration, and detail, and includes work by 28 artists at all stages of their careers, representing 14 states. The opening reception is on Saturday, September 19, from 5:00-7:00 pm.
