FALL... in Love with Your Pets!

As the air cools and the leaves change, it's the purrfect time to enjoy extra snuggles and fun with your furry friends. Take them to local Halloween festivities, go on a walk to admire fall colors, or just get cozy on the couch,. Whatever you do... remember to address your pets seasonal needs.

As colder months approach, don't let your guard down against fleas, ticks, and heartworms. These pests can be even more active in fall and winter, so be sure to continue preventive treatments year-round. Missing just one dose can leave your pet vulnerable. Always follow your vet’s advice and avoid over-the-counter flea and tick shampoos or collars, as they can do more harm than good. Stick with vet-recommended treatments to keep your pet healthy and pest-free this season!

Caring for Pets, Supporting Communities

Pets In Need knows how much pets enhance the lives of their people, and we believe everyone who so chooses should be able to experience the unconditional love and health benefits that having a pet brings. As such, Pets In Need remains committed to helping low-income pet owners, focusing on those at 200% of the poverty level or below, including vulnerable populations like the elderly, veterans, and people experiencing homelessness. We try to keep our eligibility process simple as many clients qualify through Medicaid, Medicare, or partner organizations, and we accept their verification. Pet owners are asked to self-identify up front that they meet our criteria, and income verification is collected when applicable, especially for grant purposes or when additional financial assistance is needed beyond our discounted fees.

Tail Wagging Thanks

We are honored to be a 2023/2024 Accelerator grantee of PetSmart Charities! This initiative includes over 30 veterinary clinics across the U.S. and 6 from Canada, all working together to expand nonprofit, low-cost, and financially sustainable veterinary care. With an estimated 50 million companion animals lacking adequate care due to financial barriers, the Accelerator program is partnering to tackle this difficult reality.

As an invitation-only, multi-year grant, our selection reflects our shared commitment with PetSmart Charities to increase clinic capacity and improve access to veterinary care for pet owners with limited means. This grant not only supports staff retention but also funds crucial clinic upgrades, including equipment, systems, infrastructure, and operational innovations. These enhancements allow us to reach more pets and provide even better care for the pets—and their owners—in our community.

Kiko's New Beginning

In May, Kiko, a seven-year-old blind and diabetic husky, came to our clinic when her owner, battling cancer, felt he could no longer care for her and requested euthanasia. Despite his belief that this was the best option, we saw Kiko's spirit and potential. We knew she deserved a second chance. Our team stepped in, providing medical care, grooming, and fostering her as we searched for her forever home.

After months of love and treatment, Kiko's life changed when she was adopted by a wonderful owner with two other seven year old dogs, Sumpner and Helen Keller. Fondly nicknamed Kiki (after the owner's beloved aunt), she is enjoying days filled with companionship and care and thriving in an environment where she is cherished. Her journey is a reminder that, with a little help, every pet can have a happy ending.

Paws of Gratitude

We're delighted to spotlight the generosity of Michelle and Sara Vance Waddell, along with the Waddell Family Foundation, long-time supporters of Pets In Need. From donations, financial contributions, to their personal involvement, they deserve a round of 'a-paws.' Their impact spans from artwork in our clinic to supporting two Petcasso events, and their latest gift—Ziva's Clean Teeth Club, honoring their beloved pet. We were thrilled to welcome them to the clinic last month and are deeply grateful for their commitment to helping us care for our community's most vulnerable pets and their families.
