Center Spotlight: Mason Sikes
Meet Mason Sikes, customer service extraordinaire at the Center at Norpoint.

Mason started working at Norpoint’s front desk in February 2018. As a customer service representative, he creates a welcoming atmosphere by greeting members and clients, answering questions, and signing people up for classes and memberships.
Mason also works various events that take place at the Center throughout the year, such as Norpoint’s Harvest Fest and Haunted Hall, Summer Bash, birthday party rentals and more.
“My favorite part about the Center is meeting new people and existing members who come to Norpoint,” he said.
For Mason, the it’s the people who make the experience memorable.
“I enjoy working at Norpoint because of the people I work with and the fun environment,” he said.
Born in Oklahoma, Mason moved with his family to Federal Way in the early 2000s. He attended Adelaide Elementary and Lakota Middle School, before graduating from Decatur High School in 2018.
When not at work, Mason enjoys fishing, hiking, camping, working out and playing basketball. Although, he recently tore his ACL in his left leg playing basketball. After undergoing surgery a few weeks ago, Mason is now on the road to recovery.
We're all wishing you a quick recovery, Mason!
Thank you for the work and dedication you provide to the Center.
Member of the Month: Barb Wallin
Chances are if you’ve been to Norpoint on any given morning, you’ve been greeted by Barb Wallin’s friendly smile.
As a member since 1995, Barb Wallin is the Center at Norpoint’s October Member of the Month.
At Norpoint, Barb can be found breaking a sweat on the StairMaster, the ellipticals, or in the weight room.
“Most gyms have the same type of equipment, but the people are what keep me coming to the Center.” Barb said. “I have met many friendly, kind people that I see when I am there and I look forward to not only the workout, but the friendships.”
Barb said the community at Norpoint is near and dear to her heart because of the people who genuinely care about each other and their families.
“I have enjoyed meeting so many sincere and wonderful friends at the Center,” she said.
Growing up in Bremerton, she enjoyed a childhood of freedom, where she and friends would ride bikes and play in the neighborhood woods after school and all day in the summer.
The neighborhood kids would take lunch for the day and only come home when her dad would whistle for dinner time, she said.
“My family is very important to me,” Barb said.
Her husband, Jeff, also works out at the Center. Barb’s son lives in Lacey with his wife and her darling grandkids: Hunter, Finley and Maverick. Barb’s daughter recently moved to Austin, Texas, which gives Jeff and Barb a fun place to visit, she said.
Barb’s hobby is cross stitching and she has stitched many things since retiring from the Tacoma School District in June of 2018.
If you see Barb around the Center, be sure to congratulate her as Norpoint's Member of the Month for October!

New Youth Councils for Tacoma teens
Metro Parks Youth Councils are a new youth leadership opportunity. Each community center will have its own Youth Council focused on community service, planning events, and advocating for youth in their communities.

Members will engage in monthly volunteer opportunities, large scale community events, and will be called upon regularly to share their input to make Metro Parks and our community centers better!

Councils will meet twice a month on their assigned days. Metro Parks Youth Councils are open to youth ages 13-18 who call the Tacoma area home. We encourage students to choose the center that best represents your chosen community - whether that’s where you attend school, live, work, or play.
