RCPL IN THE NEWS
The cover story of this month's Western City magazine, published by the League of California Cities, is called "Libraries Respond in Crisis and Beyond," and it features the unexpected ways that public libraries in Redwood City, Placentia, Thousand Oaks, and Monterey County have helped address their communities' priorities during the pandemic.

In Redwood City, that includes individual calls to over 6,000 businesses and 150 child care centers to let them know about available benefits, bilingual staff working to help process rental assistance applications and answer community questions about the program, loaning wifi hotspots to students in need, and much more in addition to online programs and curbside services. We are proud to be featured alongside these other innovative libraries making a difference for their communities. Read the article here
WHAT'S NEW
CHASE THE CHILL
Looking to make a difference this year? Why not donate knitted items and homemade masks! We will be accepting your donations in our Downtown Library bookdrops. Just place them in a plastic bag and drop them in. You can also drop your knits at various other Redwood City locations, such as the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Community Activities Building. Thank you to Chase the Chill RWC for putting this together for our community!

ONE BOOK, ONE COUNTY
This year's One Book, One County read is Alex Gino's debut novel, George. George details the struggles of a young child that everyone believes to be a boy. The book touches on topics in the LGBTQ community and packs it into a story that captures both young and old audiences.

Join us on October 14 at 6pm for a special Reading George Together! Book Club for grades 4-6. We'll dive into the book, play games, and get our questions ready for the One Book, One County event with the author on October 19th! Books available through Overdrive/Libby.
