News from the NEST

Activities at TGP NEST Empowerment Center

By Brigid Cooley, NEST Empowerment Center Coordinator

Spooky Season is upon us, and I’m happy to report we’ve had more treats than tricks here at the NEST this October.

October highlights were slime making and a car maintenance workshop, where students learns some basic life skills they will need once they own their own vehicle. A Halloween themed journaling workshop also invited students to try their hand at writing original ghost stories and expounding on a few haunted themes. We’ve also created our own Dia de los Muertos ofrenda, which invites everyone at the NEST to remember loved ones who are no longer with us in a very special way.

Remaining seasonal programming for the month includes pumpkin carving, a costume contest and Halloween BINGO.

Another exciting note to share: our attendance is up across the board, with an average of about 15 students attending the NEST each night this October. We even had a day with 20 students participating in our programming. This is wonderful news and encouraging, as it means we are servicing the needs of more and more teens in our community.

NEST Empowerment Center Needs

As we prepare for the holiday season, we are also gearing up to address additional needs here at the NEST. Providing warm clothes, especially socks, coats and rain jackets/windbreakers is often on the top of the list as temperatures begin to drop.

Our food pantry is also running a little low on the following items:

-       Granola bars

-       Chicken flavored Ramen

-       Chip snack bags

-       Water bottles

-       Gatorades

-       Breakfast bars and/or Pop Tarts

If anyone would like to donate any of the aforementioned items, please contact Brigid at [email protected] to set up an appointment.

The Buzz at Bridges to Growth

Halloween Fun at TGP Bridges to Growth

We had a very full month of fun at TGP Bridges to Growth, and we capped it off with a Toddler Time Halloween party. Kids came dressed up and played, did crafts, ate goodies, and even had a costume parade around the the Carver Center for Families!

Thank You, Volunteers!

October was music month at Toddler Time and ¡Hola Amiguitos! Keith Stolle, Native American flutist, came to play for the kids and they were mesmerized! What an experience!

Kiwanis Club members came to put together a new play set for our early childhood playroom. The kids are loving it when they stop in for Stay & Play!

Calling all community members!

TGP Bridges to Growth is looking for caring members of our community to support our "Stay and Play" sessions. This is an opportunity to interact with children 0-6 years old and their parents/caregivers in our Early Childhood Playroom.

We also always need volunteers to help with administrative tasks.

If you are interested in either of these opportunities, please email [email protected] for more information!
