In February our "60 Second Inspiration" stories return and we have a great line-up coming!

We will kick things off with Kaitlyn Frisch's story of transformation.  She never valued health and fitness until gaining weight and having limited mobility after an injury.  Now it is a huge part of her life.  Kaitlyn's story will air on Monday, February 3rd.  You can always catch the replay on our Facebook page the next day.

We love rewarding you for getting consistent with your workouts.  We know that you realize the real reward comes in the benefits you feel when fitness is your routine.  Here are some of our members who earned a BAC Reward in December.

We are excited to reveal what our 2020 BAC Reward gifts will be very soon!  Expect for the announcement to come around Valentine's Day!

Shakeology of the Month
STRAWBERRY CHEESECAKE
It tastes like dessert, but acts like a multivitamin!

Why Shakeology?
We all struggle with food prep and getting all the nutrients we need in life every day. Shakeology solves both of those problems.  It literally fills the gaps in our daily nutrition. We still advocate eating clean, colorful, whole foods for your daily meals. Shakeology is a multivitamin in a meal.

It is quick, convenient and filled with vitamins, minerals, superfoods, probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes, amino acids, antioxidants and protein. It is NOT a diet shake or a quick fix. It is whole food nutrition.

Need Shakeology at home for YOUR family? FREE shaker cup with purchase!

Healthy Living Recipe

Mediterranean Beet Bowl
Beets provide some impressive  health benefits . They are low in calories and a great source of nutrients, including fiber, folate and vitamin C.
Beets also contain nitrates and pigments that may help lower blood pressure and improve athletic performance. While not much to look at in their natural state, their beauty, vibrancy and sweet earthy flavor lies beneath its rugged exterior . Simply peel, chop and roast beets at 400 degrees for forty minutes to transform this super food into a super ingredient in a delish healthy bowl.
Ingredients:
1 cup chickpeas, drained and rinsed if canned
1 cup lean protein, chopped and pan seared
1 cup chopped and de-seeded cucumber
½ cup chopped Kalamata olives
1 cup sliced fresh basil
½ cup crumbled feta cheese
¼ cup toasted walnuts
1 cup roasted beets
1 cup chopped cherry tomatoes
4 cups spring greens
4 TBSP balsamic vinegar
2 TBSP extra virgin olive oil

Divide each ingredient between two large salad bowls and enjoy. Serves two.
Fitness Inspired Gala Highlights!
Larry Donajkowski was voted the most inspirational story of the year at our Ftiness Inspired Gala!  It was a night filled with happy tears, hugs and lots of love for members willing to share their stories of transformation through fitness. At the end of the evening, the audience was asked to vote for the three stories that imapcted them most.

Jennie Handrich was in 3rd place! She talked about how it felt to be on a hike with her family, wiping tears away, because she was struggling to keep up to now being able to run a half marathon!  She has lost 82 pounds!
Ron Garrow was in 2nd place! He talked about not expecting to live past 50-years-old, and when he passed it he realized he actually wanted to be around for his 12 grandkids.  He started working out consistently and took his A1C from a nine to a six.  He has lost 56 pounds!
Larry received the most votes and was shaking with excitement and joy! On January 1st, 2019 he walked into Bay Athletic Club with a New Year's resolution to take back his health.  He was 290 pounds, being told by his doctor his medication needed to be increased and he was sleeping with a CPAP machine.  He couldn't believe what his life had become.  On January 1st, 2020 Larry ran a half marathon.  He has lost 99 pounds.

The magic of our Fitness Inspired Gala reached households all over Northern Michgian.  WBKB TV covered the event and then followed up with a feature on this year's winner Larry Donajkowski.  You can watch it by clicking on the image below.

TIPS FROM NUTRITION EDUCATOR AMANDA FREELAND
When we choose to focus on our health we have to choose to create habits that will last for life.   When it comes to nutrition, we often fall into the trap of dieting. Diets do work when we first start them, almost any diet that you try will initially get you results. When we eliminate some calories, stop eating non-nutritious foods and start eating more nutritious foods, we will improve our health and lose weight.

The issue with diets is that if you do veer from the rules you've made for yourself, your brain gets a signal that you have failed and you start to eat how you were before more and more. Then, you gain weight back or lose the results that you got. That creates the idea that eating well isn't worthwhile because your results won't last.

That's just not true. Eating well is always worthwhile. The whole idea of dieting needs to be let go. What we should focus on is a nutritious lifestyle that we can sustain, that doesn't feel like restriction and that allows us to incorporate treats and foods we love without feeling guilty or like we are always worried about food. Here are a few tips that might help you towards a healthier lifestyle:

1. When you go shopping, look at your cart. Is half of your cart produce?
2. How often are you eating a treat? If it's more than twice a week, consider keeping it to twice a week.
3. Are you drinking enough water? Stay hydrated all of the time by drinking ½ your body weight in ounces of water everyday.
4. How much soda and alcohol are you drinking? Limit your consumption to allow your body to work as well as it can.
5. Create a schedule for yourself with healthy habits that will last. Create a breakfast routine, pack your lunches as often as possible and eat at home for dinner as much as you can.
Eating well should not be stressful. The thing to remember is to take it one step and one small change at a time until you find what works for you.

TAKE ACTION OVER YOUR NUTRITION:
We offer a 3-pack of personal training for $95. You can mix and match your sessions to include personal training for fitness and/or nutrition coaching with Amanda. Email [email protected] to get started.
