Scouting for Food

Scouts Community Food Drive ... Right at Your Front Door!
Join in for UCM's largest single-day community food drive!  Scouting For Food is an annual food collection orchestrated by local Scouts from the National Capital Area Council. Cub Scouts will be distributing door hanger reminders throughout area neighborhoods tomorrow, Sat. Nov. 3.

Help us reach our goal of 12,000+ pounds to stock the UCM Pantry for the winter months. On Sat., Nov. 10, fill bags with non-perishable food items and place at your front door by 8am. Scouts will pick it up from your residence and deliver to UCM's main office -- where donations will be sorted and organized by scores of community volunteers.

We still have 2-hour volunteer slots available from 8:30am to 4pm on Sat., Nov. 10. Great for teens, families, groups of friends, and colleagues! Sign up to volunteer  >

New Scale for the Food Pantry: Thank You!

Pantry Scale

Thanks a Million!
We are thrilled to announce that because of our caring community ... in fewer than eight days, we exceeded the $3,600 needed to purchase a new industrial weighing scale for our Food Pantry!  Heartfelt thanks to everyone who responded to our emergency "call to action" to replace the broken one, with your donations or by sharing our social media posts for the appeal.

Each year, we process and weigh nearly half a million pounds of food to feed hungry families in need.  Thank you especially to UCM volunteer Bob Faherty for his video testimonial about why an industrial scale is so critical for the backbreaking work of our Food Pantry team and volunteers. Photos of the new scale in action will be coming soon ... in the meantime, take a minute to  watch the short video here.
