Cornwall Public Library Newsletter - November 2024

From the

Director's Desk...

Although I dislike being too cold, I do like the fall. The colors of the leaves and the crisp clean air are heavenly. The morning can be chilly, but the afternoons are usually lovely, just the right temperature.

During this lovely season, many of you are deep cleaning and going through old things. Some of you may be having yard sales or donating old clothes to charities. While CPL appreciates that you think of us when donating your treasured books, many times we cannot use them, nor can the Friends sell them. Books donated should be less than 5 years old unless they are a classic in pristine condition. They should not have been stored in a basement or attic, nor should they have yellowish-to-brown stains on the page edges as this is an indication of mold or mildew. (Mold or mildew will infect the rest of our collection!) Donating unusable books to us means that staff have to spend time getting them ready for recycling by removing the covers (yes, even paperback covers must be removed). Covers must go in the trash and pages go in recycling. If we don’t have time then those books end up in a landfill, and we are trying to be more sustainable. So please take a good look at what you want to donate, make sure it’s clean, doesn’t have any strange odor, is current, and is not a textbook or encyclopedia. CPL does appreciate those good usable books you bring us!

Oh, and when you’re finished with all the outdoor fall activities come join us for one of our indoor ones!
