Dear Eileen,

The leaves are coming down more quickly now. The recent chilly mornings and beautiful clear full moon tell us that Fall is here. Join us at Hilltop Farm and enjoy the season.... And don't forget to change your clocks this weekend.

Oktoberfest 2023

Despite the rainy weather on October 7th, over 300 people attended Oktoberfest and enjoyed a fun evening of music, food, beer & wine tasting.

The rain did not deter the fun and festivities that mark the beginning of the Fall season in Suffield. Oktoberfest is an annual seasonal celebration that FOFAH and the Town of Suffield host.

FOFAH Receives Suffield ARPA Grant for Historical Buildings and Assets

Late this summer, the Suffield Board of Selectmen announced that APRA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds would be available to non-profits for the use of restoration or maintenance of the Town’s historical buildings and assets.

FOFAH made application and was awarded $25,000 this Fall. The funds were put towards the Big White Dairy Barn Painting Project. If you visit Hilltop Farm, you will notice the barn has been restored to its historical glory. FOFAH appreciates the Town of Suffield’s commitment to the preservation of the region’s historical buildings.

Other receptions of ARPA funds are CT Landmarks- Phelps-Hathaway House, Friends of the Windsor Locks Canal Trail, The West Suffield Village Center Association, Suffield Historical Society and the Kent Memorial Foundation.

COMPOSTING, LIFE AFTER DECAY

Squashes, gourds and pumpkins seem to thrive in all sorts of environments and are enjoyed by wildlife (and by chickens and goats). Composting keeps organic matter out of the landfill and helps to create better soils. All the more reason to not toss your Jack-o-Lanterns and other decorative gourds this year.

If you are not composting in your backyard already, now might be a great time to start! There are many options out there for bins starting with simple ones made out of pallets, advancing to plastic barrels with turning systems. Learn the basic do’s and don’ts of backyard composting.
