Tree pruning is an essential part of keeping your landscape safe, healthy, and beautiful and the good news is, most pruning can be done year-round. Fall is an excellent time to schedule this service, as it prepares trees to withstand winter storms and sets them up for strong growth in spring.
Benefits of Fall & Winter Pruning:
- Healthier Trees: Removing dead, crossing, or diseased branches improves structure and reduces stress.
- Improved Safety: Cutting back hazardous limbs helps protect your property from winter storm damage.
- Better Growth: Trees pruned in cooler months are able to heal efficiently and direct energy toward healthy spring growth.
- Enhanced Appearance: Custom pruning shapes trees for balance and beauty, improving curb appeal.
Fruit Tree Pruning During Dormancy
- Late fall and winter are especially important for fruit trees. Once dormant, they can be pruned without risk of spreading fireblight or other diseases. Dormant pruning also improves air circulation and light penetration, which leads to better fruit quality next season.
Special Offer – Winter Pruning Discount
To help you plan ahead, we are offering a 10% discount on all pruning & removal work authorized this fall and scheduled between December 1st and March 1st. Work will be scheduled in the order it is received, so we encourage you to authorize early to secure your spot.
Pruning now not only benefits your trees, but it also gives you peace of mind knowing your landscape will be safe, healthy, and beautiful when spring arrives.

| Fall Diseases and Pests in Colorado | | |
Colorado’s tough soils can leave trees stressed and struggling. Our INF soil injection biostimulant treatments provide targeted nutrition by delivering a blend of organic matter and micronutrients directly into the root zone. This method improves soil structure, reduces compaction, and ensures nutrients reach active roots where they’re needed most. Trees respond with stronger roots, healthier foliage, and greater resistance to pests, drought, and disease. Fall is a good time for injections, as root systems remain active even after leaves drop giving your trees a vital boost before winter and a head start for spring growth.

|
Fall Pest Treatments
Alongside biostimulant soil injections, fall is also the perfect time to manage pests and strengthen tree health. A dormant oil spray targets overwintering insects such as aphids, mites, and scale, reducing populations before they reemerge in spring. This proactive treatment protects trees and shrubs from early-season damage. For chlorotic trees showing yellowing leaves due to iron deficiency, a fall iron treatment helps restore deep green color and improve vigor. Combining pest management with soil care ensures your trees enter winter healthier, stronger, and better prepared to thrive when growth returns in spring.
| | Preparing for Dormancy
If you’re like us, you’re enjoying these crisp fall mornings and that means it’s time to prepare your lawn for dormancy and set the stage for a healthy spring. Lawns should no longer be fertilized, allowing them to slow their growth naturally. A winterizer fertilizer applied in October or November can strengthen roots, suppress weeds, and down the line promote strong spring growth.
September to mid October is the ideal time to aerate and overseed, helping turf establish healthy roots before winter arrives. You'll want to have plenty of time to water the seed so they can establish before turning off your sprinklers for the season. If you are already authorized for aeration, our team will call 2–3 days in advance to confirm your appointment and give you time to mark your system. Please remember: Mark your sprinkler heads before aeration. If they are not marked, we will need to call and reschedule.
We are also excited to offer a new service this season
Bundle your lawn care with Autumn Tree Lawn and Landscape. We’re excited to announce that sprinkler blowouts are now available this season. This essential service protects your irrigation system from costly freeze damage during the winter months. Simply let us know how many zones you have when scheduling, and we’ll ensure your system is properly prepared for the cold. Combine this with your fall lawn care to keep your landscape safe, healthy, and ready for spring.

Planting Ahead
While the prime planting season is coming to an end, you can still plan ahead. Submitting your proposals this fall allows you to budget and prepare for next year’s projects without the spring rush. When you authorize planting, we’ll reserve your spot in our Spring 2026 planting queue. This ensures your new trees are installed at the beginning of spring, giving them the best chance to establish strong, healthy root systems before the heat of summer arrives. Planning ahead today guarantees a more vibrant, beautiful landscape tomorrow

Bonus Outdoor Tips:
There are several additional steps you can take this season to protect and enhance your garden. Leaving seed heads on plants like sunflowers and coneflowers not only adds texture to the fall garden but also provides a valuable food source for birds throughout the colder months.
Safety is another key consideration as leaves begin to fall. Keep walkways clear to avoid slippery conditions that can be just as hazardous as ice. Finally, take time to care for your tools before storing them away. Cleaning, sharpening, and oiling garden tools now ensures they will be ready for use when spring arrives.
