MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

September 11, 2023

With summer nearing its official close in a couple of weeks, we are turning our attention to a busy fall full of key State Chamber events.

Next Thursday, we’ll be at the Chase Center in Wilmington for the largest business-to-business networking station event in the state, the Delaware Networking Station! We are a co-host of this event with the Better Business Bureau of Delaware, and we look forward to seeing nearly 100 exhibitors and hundreds of guests at this event. The following week we head over to the Food Bank of Delaware in Newark for a networking breakfast, and we'll hold a webinar on workplace policies as a result of recreational marijuana legalization.

October and November are busy too with our Developing Delaware conference slated for October 5 in Dover, followed by our Superstars in Business awards luncheon on November 8. Also in October, we welcome back Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker for his annual economic outlook webinar.

We have a lot going on over the next 16 weeks and we hope to see you at the events I’ve listed here or others. Check our website for a full list of upcoming events >

News You Can Use

Economic news this week starts tomorrow with the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) optimism index and results from August. Early Wednesday morning we’ll get the all important consumer price index data from August, while Thursday brings us U.S. retail sales from August, the producer price index from August, and business inventory data from July. We wrap up the week on Friday with August results for U.S. import prices and industrial production.

This is a very light week for earnings reports and calls. Oracle kicks off the week today, and is joined by Cracker Barrel Old Country Store on Wednesday. The Thursday spotlight is on Adobe and their call, and they’re joined by Korn/Ferry and Lennar.
