Nine Banner Health hospitals earn 'Top Performer' recognition for clinical quality, patient safety FALLON, Nev. (Nov. 18, 2014) - Banner Churchill Community Hospital is among nine Banner Health hospitals that have been recognized as a 2013 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures(r) by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the United States. These Banner facilities were recognized as part of The Joint Commission's 2014 annual report "America's Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety," for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Pneumonia and/or Surgical Care. The Banner facilities are among 1,224 hospitals in the United States to achieve the 2013 Top Performer distinction. The Top Performer program recognizes hospitals for delivering medical care that increase the chances of healthy outcomes for patients with certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, children's asthma, stroke, venous thromboembolism and perinatal care, as well as for inpatient psychiatric services and immunizations. The Banner Health hospitals recognized are: * Banner Baywood Medical Center, Mesa, Ariz. * Banner Boswell Medical Center, Sun City, Ariz. * Banner Churchill Community Hospital, Fallon, Nev. * Banner Estrella Medical Center, Phoenix * Banner Gateway Medical Center, Gilbert, Ariz. * Banner Ironwood Medical Center, San Tan Valley, Ariz. * Banner Thunderbird Medical Center, Glendale, Ariz. * McKee Medical Center, Loveland, Colo. * North Colorado Medical Center, Greeley, Colo. To be a 2013 Top Performer, hospitals had to meet certain performance criteria based on 2013 data. "Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality health care. I commend the efforts of Banner Health for their excellent performance on the use of evidence-based interventions," said Mark Chassin, MD, president and CEO of The Joint Commission. "Banner Health is proud to be named a Top Performer as it recognizes the knowledge, teamwork and dedication of each of our hospital staffs," said John Hensing, MD, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Banner Health. For more information about the Top Performer program, visit The Joint Commission. Churchill County High School Work Experience Program
Churchill County High School has a work experience program that we would like to invite businesses to be a part of it. Students will have 150 hours (depending each year on budgets) to work for an employer in the community. We try to place the students in jobs that are related to their post secondary goals. The student will be paid minimum wage from the school district and also be covered under our worker compensation. This means they work for you for free and get all of the experiences a person gains from being a member of the work force. The students have to be recommended by a staff member, keep passing grades, good behavior and attendance. These students have minor, sometimes unrecognizable, disabilities. They also must be 16 years or older and have reliable transportation. You, as the employer, will need to do 2 evaluations on the student's job performance. This program has been very successful thus far. If you would like references or are interested in participating, please contact Sara Camper at 423-2181 ext 220.

Foster Parent Recruitment Brief
Abused and neglected children who are removed from their families often need to live outside of their communities, away from everything familiar, and with uncertain futures.
In Nevada's rural communities, many children, including teens and sibling groups, are in need of a safe and nurturing home. Foster parents provide a temporary home so these children can heal and feel supported.
Foster parents can be single or married, male or female. They can be working, or a stay-at-home parent. They can also be retired with grown children.
There are many types of care that may be more suitable for your home situation:
- Emergency shelter care
- Short term and long term care
- Respite care
- Adoption
To learn more on how you can become a licensed foster parent with the State of Nevada, please call 1-888-423-2659, or go to Nevada Department of Health and Human Services

Are you curious about cloth diapers?
Join Nevada's leading cloth diaper makers for a FREE class on what cloth diapering is all about. In just one hour, you'll learn all the basics of cloth diapering and what you'll need to get started with a healthier, Eco-friendly, and much more economical diapering choice. If you want the absolute best for your baby, join us at one of our upcoming classes.
*The average child goes through 6,000-9,000 diapers before potty training. At an average cost of $.32 each, if you use 7,500 from birth to 28 months, you will spend $2400 on diapers (this doesn't include the cost of wipes, or diaper disposal systems).
*Most mainstream disposable diapers contain a number of chemicals that will be on your baby nearly 24 hours a day for 2+ years of his/her life.
*Disposable diapers are the third larges single consumer item in landfills today, and are estimated to take roughly 500 years to break down. 7.6 BILLION pounds of single use diapers fill our landfills. In addition, the production of single use diapers takes significant petrol based products, which are quickly depleting our scenic lands to access.
One hour of your time could save your family thousands of dollars, help our planet, and provide healthier diapering option for the most important bundle in your life. By choosing cloth- even if on a part time basis), you are making a GREAT decision! We look forward to helping you on your diapering journey.

As I'm still coming to grips with the fact that Thanksgiving is already upon is, I've hardly had a chance to stop and reflect on the many things I'm thankful for. That said, I'm thankful for a chance to stop tomorrow. To spend that time I haven't had to reflect on the abundant blessings in my life. It has been a fast year and it seems the time between summer and now has disappeared into a black hole never to be recovered. Which is a tragedy since Fall is my favorite season and I feel as though it slipped out from underneath me.
But reflecting, there are so many things to be thankful for this year. So many, I could never begin to capture them all in words, but here are a few:
I'm thankful for our local businesses, who hands down support this community more than most will ever even know.
I'm thankful for our local governments, that support our businesses and our community more than most governments are ever willing.
I'm thankful for our members, who provide the financial support and foundation to this organization, and who come together often and regularly to support me in more ways than I can ever express.
I'm thankful for my board, who keep me going, help me manage this organization, and who offer me guidance, encouragement and incredible sustenance.
And I'm thankful for this community. The reason all these incredible things in my life exist. The individuals and families who support the local businesses and governments who support me.
We are beyond blessed to live in Fallon, NV. And I hope you all find as many reasons as I have to be Thankful this weekend.
Happy Thanksgiving from the Fallon Chamber of Commerce.
Warmest Wishes,
Natalie Parrish
Executive Director

The Lights of Christmas
c/o The Churchill County Museum
1050 S. Maine Street
Fallon, NV 89406
Our 5th annual fundraiser, The Lights of Christmas, will be held this year on
Saturday, December 6th at the Churchill County Museum. The Lights of Christmas is a non-profit organization which raises money each Christmas for Toys for Tots. We also collect non- perishable food items for several local food pantries.
Each year the Lights of Christmas presents a forest of beautiful Christmas trees that are auctioned off to the highest bidder. This year will feature 50 uniquely ornamented trees,
decorated and donated by local organizations, clubs, and businesses. Planning is already underway for this year's event. We are partnering with The Churchill County Museum again, so the event will be inside. This means "controlled weather!" We will also be offering field trips to our school kids so they can learn all about the history of our community with the added excitement of fully decorated Christmas trees!
The cost for a tree is the same as last year: $50. If you would like to be a Tree Participant, please let us know so we can add you to our list of supporters and reserve a tree for you. Decorated trees will also be eligible for a variety of prizes. The number of trees available is limited, so don't wait to reserve yours.
