As you may know, April is a busy and exciting time of year for Family & Children’s Place.

We kicked off Child Abuse Prevention Month by hosting our annual Rally to End Child Abuse at our Old Louisville campus. Over 150 community leaders and partners rallied together with the commitment to end child abuse and family violence.
Following the Rally, more than 400 guests joined us for our annual Champions for Children fundraising breakfast, including community, business, faith, media, and education leaders.

While April keeps us busy, child abuse happens year round. And it's every adult's responsibility to keep kids safe.

We are in a critical time for children.

Recently Kentucky and Indiana hit a new record and not a good one…
Speakers from the 2019 Champion for Children Breakfast event (left/ to right): Ben & Jayne Bishop, Adrianne Morse, Pam Darnall, Samantha Robertson, and Terrence Spence.
In 2017, Kentucky was the first among all 52 states – in the rate of child abuses, with 22 children hurt by abuse for every 1,000 children. Indiana was second nationally with 19 victims per 1,000 children.

We continue to hold that title as the worst state for children.

For 135, Family & Children's Place has led efforts to build safe and strong families, raising healthy and happy children free from abuse.

And because of your investment , we’re growing, expanding services into high need communities. Thanks to a new Collaborative Learning grant, we are extending our After School Program into a new Jefferson County School – Englehard Elementary.

Our important work is succeeding with your help. I cannot thank you enough for your commitment to our children and families’ success. Thank you for being a true Champion for Children.

Donor Highlight - Kathy & Bob
For nearly 10 years, Kathy Bean and her husband Bob Kotheimer have been dedicated supporters of Family & Children’s Place.

Their interest in supporting causes focusing on women and children began early in Kathy's career, when she worked in legal aid in Iowa and focused on child custody cases involving abuse and neglect.

This issue shaped Kathy's career path and became of personal interest to both her and her husband.
As a now former Professor of Law at the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law, where she taught abuse and neglect law, Kathy understands the challenges abused and neglected children face, the scope of the problem, and the significance of supporting the mission.

"And that's exactly why we support the critical work of Family and Children's Place," said Kathy.
