Theme: Fruits and Vegetables
Welcome to family activities with PBS Kids! Fruits and vegetables are low in saturated fat, salt and sugar, and are part of a well-balanced diet. Explore some activities learning about and working with, fruits and vegetables.
Two age level areas are available – PreK-K and Grades 1-2.
PreK-K
Carrots are available in your local farm markets and grocery stores. Learn all about how carrots are grown and harvested in this short video from Valley PBS. Eating carrots provides amazing health benefits too! Make yourself a simple snack of fresh carrots and your favorite dip. Maybe invite a friend to share.
       Ready Jet Go! Pumpkin Smoothie
Making a pumpkin smoothie recipe together is a great way to practice measuring and mixing ingredients — and it’s yummy too! Begin with this recipe, add bananas, milk, yogurt, canned pumpkin puree, maple syrup and cinnamon. Remember to freeze the banana, and you will need adult help with the blender. Did you make enough to share?
Grades 1-2
How often do you notice the seeds in the different fruits you eat? Watch this Seed Sleuths video from Camp TV, mixing math with learning about seeds. The next time you eat fresh fruits, check out the seeds. What fruits did you eat? Did you count the seeds?
    Potato Print Craft
Turn potatoes into an art project! First watch this video from Camp TV, then gather your supplies. You will need raw potatoes, large paperclips, acrylic [not water color] paint, small brushes, and paper. Start with a very simple design the first time you do this craft, and you may need adult help with cutting away parts of the potato. Did you mix different colors on your prints?
