Welcome to the WMHT Family Activities Newsletter.
This weekly family newsletter is providing resources for children’s growing and learning throughout the spring and summer months.
The theme for this week is Earth Day.
I hope you find this helpful!

Theme: Earth Day
Welcome to family activities with PBS Kids!  People often celebrate Earth Day by planting trees, picking up litter, or heading outdoors to visit a nearby park or another natural place. Explore some Earth Day activities below.
Two age level areas are available – PreK-K and Grades 1-2.
PreK-K
Create an Earth Day art project using coffee filters. Collect large coffee filters, washable blue & green markers, and a spray bottle. Remember to let your “earth” dry completely before hanging it in a window. Did you invite friends to make this project with you?
       Bird Feeder
Spring means the arrival of birds in many of our communities. This Earth Day feed the birds coming in your yard. Collect pine cones, cardboard tubes, or stale rolls for the base. You can use purchased bird seed or make your own. Where did you hang your feeders?

Grades 1-2
In honor of Earth Day watch this short video from Iowa PBS. Join Abby Brown as she explains the importance of Planet Earth’s placement in the solar system, and how the earth provides for our life, well-being, and enjoyment!
    Earth Day Portrait
One idea around Earth Day is recycling. Explore what recyclable materials you can use to create a unique portrait of your favorite person or natural place. As you create your portrait, discuss how recycling protects the environment and keeps wildlife safe. Invite friends to make their own portraits.

Earth Day is this month, and finding ways to celebrate and protect the Earth every day is a satisfying and attainable goal for even our youngest children. With that in mind, here are some ideas to learn about gardening and recycling through the lens of Daisy’s garden from Nature Cat.
