Theme: Math Skills for School
Welcome to family activities with PBS Kids!  Reinforce the math concepts your child is learning at school with some of the activities below.
Two age level areas are available – PreK-K and Grades 1-2.
PreK-K
Use simple water as a way to understand liquid measurements. Experiment by measuring different amounts of water using cups [⅛, ¼, ½], pints, quarts, and gallons. Keep a record of all your measurements.

       Finger Paint Math
Combining math with art is a fun and simple way to play number games for preschoolers and kindergartners. Follow these easy steps to make your own finger paint. You will need cornstarch, water, and food coloring to make the paint. Plastic-coated freezer paper can substitute for finger paint paper. This is messy, so be sure to clean up afterwards!

Grades 1-2
These money games, played with pocket change, are brain-teasing ways to pass the time while waiting for something to happen, or to practice your money spending skills. You will need a collection of pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. Paper & pencil might be useful to add up amounts of money.
    Math Trail Mix
A ratio is a way of comparing two different things using two different numbers. Sometimes, you use ratios without realizing it. Check out this fun math activity to learn how tasty ratios can be. Did you invite a friend to share your new snack?

Tips for Doing Math Around Your Home
Math is all around us, whether we are playing a game outside, cooking in the kitchen, pushing a shopping cart through the grocery store, or even playing with toys at home. There are many things you can do, both inside and outside, with everyday objects or things you see around you to foster your child’s love of math.
