March 15th-19th Family Activities Newsletter

Welcome to week 35 of the WMHT Family Activities Newsletter.
This weekly family newsletter is providing resources for children’s growing and learning throughout the winter and spring months.
The Learn Along Bingo theme for this week is Five Senses.
I hope you find this helpful!

Theme: Learn Along Bingo: Five Senses
Welcome to Learn Along Bingo with PBS Kids! People use five senses to observe objects, organisms, or events. Using our senses, we learn about the world around us.
Two age level areas are available – PreK-K and Grades 1-2.
PreK-K
Look through these printable activities to find things to do using your five senses. Think about sight, hearing, smell, touch, and taste. Did you join the Elinor Wonders Why Exploring Club?

       Dressing for the Weather
This time of year can bring many changes in our weather. It can change from snow, to rain, to warm sun. Step outside and use your senses to check the weather. Then use this Dressing for the Weather activity and decide what Del and Dee should wear.
Grades 1-2
This week try several activities focused on your five senses. Explore observing, tasting, hearing, then add drawing and writing. Did you try the Ruff Ruffman Use Your Senses? What did you find out?
    Cat in the Hat Pinwheel
Try this pinwheel craft from Cat in the Hat. You can use your breath, a fan, or the outside wind. Maybe run with your pinwheel, what happens? Using your seeing & hearing senses, explain to someone how the pinwheel works.

America’s Test Kitchen Young Chefs’ Club
Try this fresh lemonade recipe from America’s Test Kitchen Young Chefs’ Club to explore your sense of taste. You will need lemons, sugar, and some simple kitchen tools. An adult may need to assist with the slicing of the lemons. Did you adjust the amount of sugar to make a sweet or a sour lemonade? Be sure to read the Food For Thought tip on buying lemons!
