Theme: Weather
Welcome to family activities with PBS Kids! Weather is the daily state of the atmosphere, or air, in any given place. The weather is important to people. It affects their comfort, their food supply, and even their safety.
This week we look at activities about weather.
Two age level areas are available – PreK-K and Grades 1-2.
PreK-K
Summer is a time for outdoor fun, but weather can affect outdoor play. Using this weekly weather chart from Nature Cat, keep track of weather changes in your neighborhood.

      Hero Elementary Bubbles
If the weather provides a nice day how about making Bubbles! Try this simple Hero Elementary recipe for bubble mix with pipe cleaner wand. Make sure you spread your bubbles out-of-doors.
Grades 1-2
Wind or the movement of air across Earth’s surface, is an element of weather. Winds may be gentle or powerful. Make this wind gauge from Cyberchase to measure the speed of the wind. Tools are simple – index card, string, paper clip, scissors and glue. Maybe you can draw a weekly chart and measure the wind each day.
    Nature Cat Game
Sometimes poor weather prevents families from going to local parks to play. To play at an indoor park try this Park Builder game from Nature Cat.

PBS Kids: Summer Activity Book
Get started with summer fun for the whole family! This summer activity booklet from PBS Kids is loaded with fun summer activities. Try a scavenger hunt, create a new dance, explore your five senses, or track the phases of the moon for an entire month.
