Theme: Back to School
Welcome to family activities with PBS Kids! School is soon to start. Explore activities to begin the transition to the new school year.
Two age level areas are available – PreK-K and Grades 1-2.
PreK-K
A new school year is starting, and with it morning and bedtime transitions can be tough. Try these easy and fun ideas to help you accomplish your morning and evening tasks with ease. Simple writing materials are all you need.

      Lucky Mini Unicorn
Back-to-school time can be full of feelings. Excitement, nervousness, and curiosity about the unknown are all swirling as your first day of school approaches. This mini unicorn craft is a perfect way to talk about the coming school year. Supplies are simple – cardboard tube, paint, yarn, straws, and glue. Did you invite a friend to make one with you?

Grades 1-2
Practice your math and baking skills with a muffin recipe from Molly of Denali. You will need adult help gathering the basic food supplies and using the oven. Maybe invite a new school friend to help you make the snack.

    Create a Homework Center
Get ready for back-to-school by setting up your own personalized school supply center to store items such as pencils, pens, markers and scissors. You may decide to use a collection of cans, jars, and small boxes, with each holding different school supplies. Substitute tin foil, wrapping paper, or construction paper for the painting of the containers. Did you find other decorations at the store?
