Theme: Learn Along Bingo: Freezing and Melting
Welcome to Learn Along Bingo with PBS Kids! This week we learn that water can exist as solid ice and in liquid form. Water is one of nature's resources.
Two age level areas are available – PreK-K and Grades 1-2.
PreK-K
This week’s booklet offers science activities to help children observe the changes in liquids when they experiment with changing the liquid’s temperature. Did you try the Cat in the Hat ice cube experiment? What colors did you add to the ice cube tray?

      What Makes the Sea Rise?
In this activity you and your child will investigate how melting glaciers can cause the sea level to rise and change the Earth's landscape. You will need a medium sized plastic container, play dough, and some ice cubes. How high did your sea level rise?

Grades 1-2
Using these suggestions experiment with making popsicles, melting ice, or creating an ice cube tower. Did you make the Ruff Ruffman recipe for rainbow popsicles?? What fruit flavors did you use? Or maybe you tried the Ready Jet Go ice investigation?
    Temperature Scavenger Hunt
There are many things that can make a place hotter or colder, like the sun, a fan, a refrigerator, a heater, or the temperature of nearby air or water. Using this experiment, measure water temperatures in different places in your home. You will need a thermometer and several small cups of water. Use the chart to record the changing temperatures.

 Polar Bear Slip & Slide
Families can use this NATURE at-home activity to learn how a mother polar bear’s feet help her cross the ice and snow. Examine how different textures provide grip on slippery surfaces with this fun slip and slide activity! You will need to freeze a small tray of water to provide the icy surface.

America’s Test Kitchen Young Chefs’ Club
No ice cream maker? No problem! Use this recipe to make your own rich, creamy homemade ice cream. You will need a blender or hand mixer, light corn syrup, sweetened condensed milk, heavy creme, and whole milk. You may need adult help using the blender or mixer. Did you add peanut butter or Oreo cookie crumbs? Yum!
