Theme: Holiday Crafts
Welcome to family activities with PBS Kids!  Gather craft supplies and make decorations for family and friends.
Two age level areas are available – PreK-K and Grades 1-2.
PreK-K
Winter is here and with it may come snow! Decorate your house for the holidays with these beautiful and easy cotton swab snowflakes from Daniel Tiger! You will need cotton swabs, dark heavy paper, scissors and glue. You may need adult help cutting the cotton swabs. Did you try adding glitter to your decorations?
       Family Hands Garland
Create a hanging garland of family hands. Ask other family members to join you in tracing hands on cardstock, cardboard, or construction paper. Let each person decide which hand to use - right or left. Suggest everyone write their name and decorate each hand. Hang the garland where everyone can see!

Grades 1-2
Combine art and science! Using simple inexpensive materials while exploring water absorption, create this coffee filter garland to decorate your home. Experiment with different sized coffee filters, watercolor paint, and string or yarn to hang the finished products. Food coloring works as a good substitute for water colors, and a straw can double for an eye dropper. Be sure to let the coffee filters dry completely before folding and hanging!
    Fruit Peel Garland
Create a fruit inspired holiday decoration for your room. Experiment using grapefruit and lemons [look for large lemons] along with the oranges. Ask for adult help cutting and with using the oven. Did you combine all the fruit juices to make a special drink? Where did you hang your garland?

Holiday Sweet Treat – Candy!
Treat your whole family to this peppermint bark sweet treat! Use semi sweet and white chocolate chips, add holiday candy canes, and create a family treat. You may need adult help with melting chocolate in the microwave. Be careful not to over swirl the two chocolates on the baking sheet. Did you share some candy with friends?
