March 1st-5th Family Activities Newsletter

Welcome to week 33 of the WMHT Family Activities Newsletter.
This weekly family newsletter is providing resources for children’s growing and learning throughout the winter and spring months.
The Learn Along Bingo theme for this week is Growing As A Reader.
I hope you find this helpful!

Theme: Learn Along Bingo: Growing As A Reader
Welcome to Learn Along Bingo with PBS Kids! Good readers look at all features on the page: words, pictures, captions, and informational graphics. Once we learn to read, we then read to learn.
Two age level areas are available – PreK-K and Grades 1-2.
PreK-K
This week is full of opportunities to play and learn through reading. Try the menu activity or plan your day booklet from Sesame Street. Also you can list and review your favorite books. And you can try the Super Why word match. Which activity is your favorite?

       Story Book Builder
Create a story with this Sesame Street game. Choose from three different characters, and where they go to play. Then decide what happens next. Did you make all three stories, each with different activities?

Grades 1-2
Using these suggestions focus on characters and storylines from the books you read. Work with a friend or family member to create your own story from things around you. Did you do a character drawing using the Word Girl sheet?
    Arthur Folktale Play
Explore some of your favorite folktales and stories. This Arthur activity offers ideas to turn a story into a play. Maybe you can create your own new story, and then act it out.

  Clifford Adventure Stories Game
Check out this Clifford adventure stories game. Choose from three stories, decide on your story line, and color the pictures.

America’s Test Kitchen Young Chefs’ Club
The cold winter months are a good time to think soup! Try this tasty carrot soup recipe from America’s Test Kitchen Young Chef’s Club. It’s quite simple. All you need are carrots, milk, and chicken broth. You may need help using the stove and blender. The fresh ginger adds a little zing!
