Theme: Spring!
Welcome to family activities with PBS Kids!  Spring has just arrived, on the calendar, but the outside weather may not show it. Try some indoor spring activities until weather cooperates.
Two age level areas are available – PreK-K and Grades 1-2.
PreK-K
Make paper flowers on a SPRING to celebrate March 20th. Look for colored construction paper and lightweight decorations at craft or Dollar Stores. Follow the directions to fold the paper spring. Create the flowers to place on top of the green spring. Did you add glitter or decorations on the flower tops?

      Spring Tree Terrarium
Celebrate spring with a small terrarium. Recycle a glass jar, collect small twigs from outside, and use colorful tissue paper as leaves. You may need adult help using a hot glue gun. Remember to glue the twigs to the underside of the jar lid. Did you make some for other family members?

Grades 1-2
A greenhouse isn't green! It's a structure with walls and a roof made of glass or plastic that traps heat from the sun and moisture from the soil. This makes for perfect conditions for a seed to sprout and grow into a big, strong plant before the growing season starts outside. Using these directions, collect large and small plastic containers, potting soil and seeds. Then start your own indoor greenhouse. What kids of seeds did you plant?

    Regrow Your Scallions
Scallions or green onions, are a vegetable related to garlic, chives, and leeks. Lots of recipes use scallions, so don’t throw away your scallion scraps. Instead, use them to grow more scallions in just a week with this America’s Test Kitchen activity. When you shop for scallions, look for some with roots at least 1 ½ inches long. As they are growing, be sure to add fresh water each day! Did you add your scallions to a new recipe?

Spring is finally here! After such a long and cold winter, it's thrilling to feel the wind in your hair and the warm sun on your face. When weather permits, take the family outside and enjoy the new season. Here are simple ways to enjoy the outdoors and celebrate spring.
