Theme: Seasonal Activities
Welcome to family activities with PBS Kids! November is here and the holidays are coming. Explore some of these seasonal activities.
Two age level areas are available – PreK-K and Grades 1-2.
PreK-K
Talk with family members and ask what they are grateful for this year. Using these Daniel Tiger thankful cards, write down the things they talked about. Now write down the things you are thankful for. Do any of your things match with the other family members?

       Daniel Tiger Recipe Sheet
Holidays often mean gathering with others for special meals. Talk with family members about what special recipes have been passed down thru the years. Use this recipe sheet from Daniel Tiger to write one down. Maybe this year you will create some new recipes to add to your family traditions!

Grades 1-2
Celebrate the beauty of fall by creating a festive centerpiece for your Thanksgiving table! First you will need adult help gathering bare tree or bush branches. Then set out pencils, construction paper, scissors and tape. Invite other family members to work with you. Begin to draw, cut out, and attach the paper leaves to the branches. How many leaves did everyone make? Did you write all things you are thankful for on the leaves?
    Gratitude Jar
This Thanksgiving, take some time to reflect on what you and your family are thankful for. These directions from Cyberchase will help you get started. Fill the jar with everyone’s thoughts. Later in the day, gather around to open your jar and read all of the reasons you have to be thankful!

Pumpkin Pie – Ugly Food and Food Waste
In this Cyberchase video clip Jackie is looking for a pumpkin to make her perfect pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately all that’s left on the farm are dented pumpkins and lots of "ugly” produce that no one wanted to buy. This video teaches that “ugly” looking produce tastes the same and is just as healthy as produce that looks “perfect.”
