Theme: Water Activities Part 2
Welcome to family activities with PBS Kids!  Continue the water theme with more fun activities, then cool off with a lemony summer drink.
Two age level areas are available – PreK-K and Grades 1-2.
PreK-K
A glacier is a big mass of ice and snow. Glaciers can grow and shrink, even "flow" like slow-moving rivers. In this activity, you can investigate how melting glaciers can cause the sea level to rise and change the Earth's landscape. You will need a large plastic container, clay or playdough, and ice cubes. Did you add blue food coloring to the ocean water?

       Measurements with Water
Combine math skills with liquid measurements using water. Collect a gallon jug, a funnel, and a variety of measuring containers. Use, cups, pints, and quarts to measure the water. Count how many of each different sized containers of water can fit into the one-gallon jug.

Grades 1-2
Ancient aqueducts were used to transport water over great distances by using gravity and keeping water sources high. Learn a little about ancient engineering as you build a homemade aqueduct. Collect cardboard, rolled tubes, tin foil, and a stapler to start. What objects did you add to the water as it moved through the aqueduct?
    Milk Jug Whitewater Raft
Create this whitewater raft to take your tiny toys on some rafting adventures! Ask an adult to cut the plastic milk jug and punch the oar holes for you. Look for thin craft sticks or twigs to use as oars. Add small toys or action figures, and find a good water place to start the adventure.

Real Lemonade
On a hot summer afternoon, make some real lemonade. This recipe begins with lemons, sugar, and water. You will need adult help cutting, mashing, and squeezing the fresh lemons. Invite some friends to share your fresh treat.
