Theme: St Patrick's Day
Welcome to family activities with PBS Kids!  St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated in many different ways — from big parades to simple family meals at home. You don’t have to be Irish to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and try these holiday projects below.
Two age level areas are available – PreK-K and Grades 1-2.
PreK-K
Make some shamrock jewelry and get festive this St. Patrick's Day. Invite friends to join you in making these shamrock necklaces. You can find green paper or card stock, yarn, straws, and various gems or other colorful decorations at craft or Dollar Stores.

Make Your Own Four-Leaf Clover Pins
Create this lucky four-leaf clover pin for St. Patrick's Day. It's the perfect solution for those who forget to wear green! Collect green pompoms, pipe cleaners, and a hot or warm glue gun. You will need adult help using the glue materials. Make several and share them with other family members.

Grades 1-2
It doesn’t matter if you’re Irish or not, every leprechaun will love participating in this festive project. Start with green construction paper and lots of colored tissue. Create a variegated shamrock using different shades of green tissue! Use bottled glue, as a glue stick will not hold the tissue. Did you make one to share with a friend?
    Leprechaun Water Bottle Bowling

Go "green" and play a lucky bowling game with these do-it-yourself leprechaun bowling pins made from recycled plastic bottles! Note - water color paint may not stick to plastic bottles, so use acrylic paints. You can also substitute green card stock for the hats. Remember to add some dried beans or rice to the plastic bottles before painting, as this will help balance the bottles.

One Pot Shells with Peas and Sausage
Add green to make this simple one pot meal into St Patrick’s Day dinner. Shop with an adult for the sausage, pasta shells, chicken broth, peas and onions. The pasta cooks right in the sauce (instead of separately in boiling water), so it absorbs lots of flavor—and there’s fewer dishes to wash! Add a simple green salad to round out the holiday meal. Be sure to read Food For Thought at the end of the recipe to learn how the sauce develops in the pot.
