Theme: Winter Crafts
Welcome to family activities with PBS Kids!  Winter weather brings cold weather and snow. Stay inside to explore some winter activities.
Two age level areas are available – PreK-K and Grades 1-2.
PreK-K
It’s cold weather outside, so make a snowman inside! Mix this snowman paint and create snowmen on paper. Ask an adult for help gathering school glue and shaving crème. Mix it in a bowl, and begin painting snowmen. If you add food coloring to the mix, what happens to your snowman?
       Paper Snowflakes - Iowa PBS
Celebrate the snow with a snowflake party! Join Abby and her friend Ava as they cut paper snowflakes. You will need scissors and the largest coffee filters you can find. The larger the filter, the easier to cut the designs. Remember to fold the filter three times. How many snowflakes did you make?

Grades 1-2
Build your own winter wonderland by turning cardboard boxes into a gingerbread village! Create your village using recycled cardboard boxes. While you build, talk about the purpose of each building. Are there houses? Stores? Schools? What will your village look like?
    Homemade Snow Globe
Use these directions to create a sparkly winter snow globe. Ask for adult help collecting a jar or bottle with a tight fitting lid, glue, sequins and glitter. Hunt around for small objects to put inside the globe. When finished, make sure to keep the lid on tight!

Hot Cocoa
After being out in the cold winter weather, come and warm up with hot cocoa. Try this home-made hot cocoa mix, and you’ll never open a store bought packet again! The secret in the mix is white chocolate chips! Did you invite others to share a hot cup of cocoa?
