Theme: The 4th of July
Welcome to family activities with PBS Kids!  The Fourth of July is our country's birthday. We celebrate with parades, flags, and family get-togethers. Enjoy some simple crafts and a hot dog treat.
Two age level areas are available – PreK-K and Grades 1-2.
PreK-K
Celebrate or national holiday by making a paper flag. Collect red-white-blue construction paper, tape, and a long cardboard tube. Design, cut and tape your flag. Maybe take it along to your local town parade!
       Popsicle Stick Flags
Create mini American flags to celebrate the Fourth of July. Start at a craft or Dollar store for large wooden craft sticks, red & white & blue paint, and stick on stars. Be sure to let the paint dry before you put your flags together.

Grades 1-2
Get ready for the Fourth of July with these fun Independence Day rocket decorations using some basic supplies and recyclables. Collect cardboard tubes, paint, colored paper, tissue paper, straws and glue. You may need adult help forming the cones and gluing them to the top of the rockets. Did you add glitter to your paint?
    Fire Cracker Hot Dogs
Celebrate the 4th of July with this Fire Cracker Hot Dog recipe. It’s quite simple with hot dogs, canned biscuit dough, wooden skewers, and 1 egg. You may need adult help threading the hot dog on a skewer. Did you make the star topper for each skewer?

Children’s Books for the Fourth of July
Celebrate this Fourth of July with fireworks, flags and the Founding Fathers! From the well-known George Washington and John Adams, to Sybil Ludington’s midnight ride, this collection of books brings history and festivity to kids ages 0-12.
