The Excitement is Building This Fall

This summer, we have been busy with our Family Center expansion construction project. As we move into the fall, the excitement is building as we see the steel structure, walls and roof taking shape. Read on to learn more about our construction progress, take a look at photos, see how we have raised the roof structure, and learn how you can take part in our new Homestretch Gift Challenge to help build for the future!

Greetings: An Update from Board Chair Scot Guempel

Dear Friends,

This has been a challenging year but our Y has continued to serve the community through the long months of the COVID-19 pandemic. I’m sincerely grateful to so many of our Y members who stayed with the Y when our buildings were closed in the spring. I’m also grateful to many people who have helped the Y to support those in our community who are facing food insecurity, homelessness and isolation. Our food and supply drives, and our well-being calls to thousands of people have helped to keep our community united through the challenges of this year.

Over the months, many of you also have seen the exciting progress on construction of our YMCA Family Center expansion, which continues to progress on schedule. We are in the homestretch with funding the project and we hope you will help us to build for the future. Our new eight-lane pool and double-sized sports gymnasium will enable our Y to serve the community in new and broader ways, incorporating health and safety standards that have become routine at the Y this year.

Our hundreds of donors have made this important capital expansion possible. And right now, we have an exciting opportunity for donors to help us reach our next goal. Offered by an anonymous donor, our “Homestretch Gift Challenge” is to reach $8.6M in our Capital Campaign by December 31. When we reach that benchmark anytime yet this year, our donor will contribute a most generous gift of $400K to help achieve a new high point of $9M raised in the Campaign! We started this effort three years ago and our donors have been with us through all phases of the project. Right now we need your help and we hope you will join us in this challenge. Thank you for being part of our Y community as we build for the future!

A Strong Foundation: Let's Raise the Roof
We have concluded the concrete/masonry phase of our construction and are in the midst of our Structural Steel & Roof, Masonry Veneer phase! Let's talk about support:

Did you know?

Q: What is the difference between a beam and a joist?

A: A beam is a main load-bearing structural element of a roof, which supports the weight of the joists. The joists are horizontal structural members that span the space of the building and transfer structural loads to the beams.

This fun fact was brought to us by Wm. Blanchard Company. Thanks for your hard work!

Paving the Way Campaign
Walk This Way

As we continue to build for the future, a great way to be part of the Y's history and leave your legacy for future generations is with our paver donations! Honor your friends and family, or say thank you to a front-line hero with a lasting donation in their name through our Paving the Way Campaign. The pavers will be used to create the walkway to the second entrance to the Madison Area YMCA’s Family Center. The Paving the Way Campaign supports our Capital Campaign to expand the Madison Area YMCA. Paver donations are $250 each and are tax deductible.

Recognizing the needs of our members and neighbors, and the challenges and limitations of our current facility, the Madison Area YMCA has launched a community fundraising campaign to expand our Y and to continue our mission of providing financial assistance to those who need us. With your help, we will provide additional services to encourage a healthy and active community. Together, we will connect neighbors and families, strengthening the social bonds that promote understanding.
