Welcome to December! Can you believe it is the end of 2019? The University of Texas at San Antonio wishes you and yours a happy holiday season.

As we start the New Year, we hope that we may be a place where you can connect with other organizations and find useful resources for community wide, family engagement opportunities.

In this month’s newsletter, we wanted to share a variety of festive events and upcoming scholarship deadlines.

¡Bienvenidos a Diciembre! ¿Pueden creer que es el final de 2019? La Universidad de Texas en San Antonio les desea a usted y a su familia felices vacaciones.
Al comenzar el Año Nuevo, esperamos que podamos ser un lugar donde usted pueda conectarse con otras organizaciones y encontrar recursos útiles para oportunidades de compromiso familiar a nivel comunitario.

Scholarship Information
UTSA General Scholarship Application
For Fall Freshman & Transfer Applicants
  Deadline: Jan 15
UTSA’s Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships oversees a range of scholarships that are funded by the university and donors. To be considered for these, you must submit the UTSA General Scholarship Application in ApplyTexas by Jan 15.

La Oficina de Ayuda Financiera y Becas de UTSA supervisa una variedad de becas financiadas por la universidad y los donantes. Para ser considerado para esto, debe enviar La Aplicación de Beca General de UTSA en ApplyTexas antes del 15 de Enero.
Application opens January 6, 2020
Deadline March 29, 2020
Scholarship judges or scholarship selection committees review and score scholarship applications. Judges/committee members are composed of faculty, staff, and/or community representatives. Rating points are given to each applicant for GPA, academic plans, extracurricular activities, leadership skills, participation in community activities, and responses to the essay questions. Selections are based on the applicant meeting the minimum scholarship criteria, and the points given by scholarship judges/selection committees.
We think of our National Scholarship as the “Pell Grant” for highly motivated DREAMers with significant, unmet financial need. While we consider your GPA and test scores, we place great emphasis on your demonstrated commitment to community service and your ability to overcome the barriers and challenges that DREAMers face each and every day.

Pensamos en nuestra Beca Nacional como la "Beca Pell" para los DREAMers altamente motivados con una importante necesidad financiera no satisfecha. Si bien consideramos su GPA y los puntajes de examenes, ponemos un gran énfasis en su compromiso demostrado con el servicio comunitario y su capacidad para superar las barreras y los desafíos que enfrentan los DREAMers todos los días.

 The  Tower of Americas   will be hosting FREE events for you and your family. Check out the list below for the events and dates so you can start making your plans.

  • The Polar Express 4D Experience: Nov. 15– Jan. 15, from 10 a.m. – 11 p.m.
  • Holiday Market Day: Saturday, Dec. 7 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Alamo City Mopar Car Show: Saturday, Dec. 7 from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Movie in the Park, The Nutcracker & The Four Realms Saturday: Saturday, Dec. 14 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m
  • Zumba in the Park: Saturday Dec. 21 at 10 a.m.
After you've taken a stroll in the beautifully lit Alamo gardens, join us at 7:00 p.m. for a holiday movie double feature - Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Frosty's Winter Wonderland.
Chairs and blankets are welcome, as are snacks.
No alcohol or coolers permitted.
The Helotes Cowboy Christmas Parade will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019 in Old Town Helotes! The parade starts at 7:30 p.m.

This night parade is a free community event. Public parking is available in Old Town. We can't wait to celebrate the season with you!

Generation Z and the World of Tomorrow
Tuesday, December 10, 2019, 9:00 a.m.--12:00 p.m.
It is a whole new world out there and success starts here! Generation Z and our future are building a new and exciting lifestyle for themselves. Navigating this new frontier takes courage, fortitude, persistence, and courage. This fun, energetic and interactive session is designed to update parents about the 21st Century workplace needs of the employer and the future employability needs of their child (ren). Parents will walk away with a better understanding of how they can empower their child (ren) to be the very best they can be and to build the skill sets to “sell” themselves as the best “products” on the market for any and all employers in the world.

¡Es un mundo totalmente nuevo y el éxito comienza aquí! Generación Z y nuestro futuro están construyendo un estilo de vida nuevo y emocionante para ellos. Navegar por esta nueva frontera requiere valor, fortaleza, persistencia y coraje. Esta sesión divertida, energética e interactiva está diseñada para actualizar a los padres sobre las necesidades del empleador en el lugar de trabajo del siglo XXI y las futuras necesidades laborales de sus hijos. Los padres se irán con una mejor comprensión de cómo pueden empoderar a sus hijos para que sean lo mejor que puedan y construir los conjuntos de habilidades para “venderse” a sí mismos como los mejores “productos” en el mercado para cualquier empleador en el mundo.

Military Families
MCEC Parent to Parent community-based teams are available via webinar to support parents who are remote or not located near a major military installation. Webinars are available here usually on Wednesdays at Noon EST. Participants must register in advance for the live webinar presentation.
