Hi Neighbors,

As the heatwaves simmer down and Autumn weather arrives, our community is gearing up for a season filled with events that bring us all together.

The Family Fall Festival is in less than two weeks! Join me at Lake Cunningham on Saturday, October 26th from 10am-2pm for a pumpkin patch, trick-or-treating, a photo booth, and activities everyone can enjoy!

To ensure that all of our neighbors can enjoy the event, entry and parking will be FREE! Please contact my office if you have any questions.

This week at City Council, the Pleasant Hills Golf Course Guiding Principles were accepted unanimously. Over the past year, neighbors attended in-person and online workshops to provide direct feedback on what they wanted to see at the site. This work is far from over and I look forward to keeping the conversations going and empowering our neighborhoods.

Finally, thanks to the generous support from countless community members, I am honored to share that the San Jose Veterans Day Parade is now confirmed and set to take place this year on Monday, November 11 at Noon in Downtown San Jose.

If you would like to be a part of this work and help the United Veterans Council of Santa Clara County preserve the San Jose Veterans Day Parade for years to come, reach out to their dedicated team and/or donate today.

Best,

Domingo Candelas

2024 Binational Health Week

The 2024 Binational Health Week Kickoff was amazing!

With over 60 resource tables, hundreds of community members came together to learn how to implement lifestyle changes, committing to leading a healthier life.

Thank you to the Binational Health Week Leadership Committee, including the Mexican Consulate, for taking the time and effort to plan and coordinate this kickoff and an entire month of community events!

International Walk to School Day

Tully East Festival

Nothing makes me happier than seeing our community show up and show out for events like the first ever Tully East Festival!

I definitely spent more than I should have on delicious food and drinks, courtesy of our local vendors.

A huge thank you to the Tully Rd. Eastridge Business Association, San José Made, Moveable Feast, the Eastridge Center, and everyone involved with this wonderful event!

Paint Night at Fernish Park

Not even a heatwave can discourage our aspiring artists! I saw so many works of art during our paint night at Fernish Park.

Everyone who came out played a role in activating our park and creating a stronger community!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and my office is wearing pink to stand in solidarity with those affected by breast cancer.

Breast cancer impacts both men and women, and early detection is critical.

We encourage you to do monthly breast self-exams or schedule regular clinical breast exams or mammograms.

Don't wait, take charge of your health today!

City Hall Update

Pleasant Hills Golf Course Guiding Principles

On October 8th, the City Council unanimously accepted the Pleasant Hills Golf Course Guiding Principles. These Guiding Principles summarize over a year's worth of the community's key objectives and concerns for the future development of the former golf course.

Thank you to the hundreds of residents who participated in the outreach process and provided their feedback. I am proud to have worked alongside every resident and sponsored the memo that initiated the city-led process in April 2023.

The City Council also approved a recommendation I led alongside Mayor Mahan and my Council colleagues that ensures we have a comprehensive understanding of the traffic mitigation and fiscal impact of a possible project at this site. You can stay tuned for more community updates by visiting the Planning Department's Pleasant Hills Vision website.

Addressing Overgrown Vegetation Concerns in our Neighborhoods

I'm excited to share the remarkable difference of the median on Tully Road!

My office worked diligently to make sure the overgrown vegetation was cleared by maintenance staff.

I appreciate our neighbors for being the eyes and ears in the community. Please continue to report any concerns to my office!

Road Repaving on San Felipe Road

The roadwork is nearly completed on San Felipe from Aborn Rd through Yerba Buena Rd. Traffic impacts are expected through October 18th.

This work is part of the City's Department of Transportation (DOT) Pavement Maintenance Three-Year Plan (2023-2025).

These essential community infrastructure projects are made possible through funding from the voter-approved Measure T (2018) and Senate Bill 1 (2017).

Several major and local streets are still scheduled for maintenance in 2025. Please view the GIS Pavement Projects Storymap for all updates and information.
