Activities to Encourage Speech and Language Development |
|
- Talk to your baby throughout the day.
- Encourage sounds like "ma" "ba" "da"
- Encourage simple sign language for "all done," "want," "please" and "thank you."
- Acknowledge attempts to communicate.
- Read to your child(ren).
- Expand on what your child says.
- Ask questions that require a choice: "Do you want a yellow or blue marker?"
- Frequently name and identify body parts.
- Talk throughout your day. Talk about what you are doing, where you are going, etc.
- Point out familiar objects in picture books, or ask your child(ren) to identify known objects.
