Summer will be here soon! Sign up now to reserve your spot in Summer Academy. MPS has summer programs for students in K5 through grade 12. Summer programs are free for students living in the city of Milwaukee. Some sites offer after-school care for a fee.
Summer learning is designed to be fun and to support skill building. Students who attend a summer session start stronger in fall and feel better prepared for the challenges of the next grade level.
New this year: College 101 courses that earn both high school and college credit!

District Spelling Bee Finals -- Join Us!
Join us for the Districtwide Spelling Bee and be amazed as students face off in this classic academic challenge. Watch the spelling bee on TMJ4's streaming applications like Roku or Apple TV, at tmj4.com, on the TMJ4 News App, or on the TMJ4 Facebook page. The live event at Vincent High School requires a ticket for admission.

The 2021-22 school year is winding down! It's time to get ready for summer.
Early Start Schools: Last day of student attendance is Thursday, May 26, 2022.

Waterslides are fun in the summer, but let's all do our best to avoid summer slide! Children lose a great amount of learning over the summer and have to catch up again in fall. Reading a few minutes a day can help students keep their skills sharp. Watch this newsletter over the summer for easy and helpful tips to help keep kids reading and get access to books.

Herb Kohl Awardees
Awards for excellence in teaching and student scholarships for 2022 have been announced by the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation. Eleven MPS students received scholarships and three teachers were recognized for exceptional work in education.

College Decision Day
Throughout the first two weeks of May, MPS high schools honored students’ plans for college, technical school, military service, certificates, and apprenticeships. Each school planned an individual ceremony, with some events in person and some virtual. Of the approximately 3,500 seniors who will graduate, every student who has declared their career plan was recognized to celebrate their hard work toward graduation and the journey to the career of their choice.

MPS Releases Preliminary Budget
Milwaukee Public Schools has released the 2022–23 proposed budget totaling $1.3 billion. The superintendent’s proposal represents a student-focused budget. Ninety-one cents of every dollar budgeted in the School Operations Fund is used to support students, schools, and school staff.

Earn and Learn Summer Youth Jobs
Milwaukee youth ages 14 to 24 are eligible for the Milwaukee Earn and Learn program. Jobs and internships are available starting at $12.21 per hour. COVID-19 Testing Consent
MPS offers free COVID-19 rapid testing for students and staff. Families can fill out a consent form to be kept on file with their child’s school. If a child shows symptoms of COVID-19, the school can arrange to have the child quickly tested. Children who have signed consent forms are also eligible for testing if a classroom, group, or the school needs to undergo testing.
If you have not already done so, visit mpsmke.com/covidtesting to access the COVID-19 Student Testing Consent Form or download a flyer to access a QR code. Contact your child’s school with any questions.
