August County Fair Edition 2018
It's August and that means one thing for our office, county fair!
Many people think our Extension office is responsible for conducting the fair. The Fair Association is an independent governing entity, funded in part by Johnson County Government. Johnson County Extension's role is to oversee the 4-H youth division of the fair. While 4-H Youth Development is a national program, it is administered by the state's county Extension boards in partnership with K-State Research and Extension.
The Johnson County Fair is the culmination of the 4-H year. Members submit their projects for judging and awards. County fair teaches youth time management, responsibility, poise under pressure, and much more. Top winners can go on to compete at the Kansas State Fair held in Hutchinson.
In this issue of
Knowledge for Life we highlight some of our program's role in helping to make the county fair a success.
