Sixteenth Sunday Readings:
First Reading — Sarah and Abraham receive God as a guest (Genesis 18:1-10a).
Psalm — He who does justice will live in the presence of the Lord (Psalm 15).
Second Reading — The body of Christ suffers and rejoices in our sufferings and joys (Colossians 1:24-28).
Gospel — Martha and Mary receive Jesus as a guest (Luke 10:38-42).

Women play key yet somewhat enigmatic roles in both the Old Testament reading from Genesis and the selection from the Gospel of Luke.
The creative power of God overcomes the sterility of Sarah and Abraham and brings wonderful new life in her son-to-be Isaac, and an assured future for Israel; just as through Mary, a virgin who protested that she “did not know man,” it would bring the Incarnate Word of God, Jesus, into our world.
The Gospel selection from Luke puts the spotlight on two women friends of Jesus, Martha and Mary (who also have a significant role in John’s Gospel).
It would be hard to make the case that the Jesus who feeds the multitudes and, in John’s Gospel, serves his disciples breakfast by the Sea of Galilee, would ever disparage the domestic service Martha performs. But Luke and all the New Testament would affirm that authentic Christian charity and service of every form find their foundation and motivation in awareness of God’s love for us revealed through Jesus.

The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass with the Eucharist is the most powerful means of healing intergenerational iniquity and transgression referred to in scripture.

On July 23rd and 24th, The Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill will visit Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament as part of the Mission Cooperation Plan. The sisters serve in missions in Ecuador, China and South Korea, offering training and life skills for mentally and physically disabled children.

In June and July, our Good Samaritan Summer Supper crew distributed 155 meals to those in need. While we hate to see so much need, we are so proud to be a parish of service. Thank you again for all you do to continue our parish hospitality for the hungry. Our next Supper will be Thursday, August 4th and we'll be serving a Summer classic: chili dogs and chips.

Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament is excited to welcome beloved songwriter, performer, worship artist and storyteller, PJ Anderson, on August 21st at 1pm at St. Julian Eymard!
Teens know PJ from Catholic Heart Work Camp, and his latest album, Mercy, Mercy, debuted at #7 on iTunes. He has led thousands in worship including the Youth Rally and Mass for Life in Washington DC and World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland. PJ has been praised for his unique ability to connect with listeners and says, “As a Christian songwriter, I am driven by the challenge of saying something new, thought-provoking and inspiring about God’s immense love for us.”
PJ’s genuine enthusiasm for God is refreshing and infectious. Come see, and hear, for yourself and share the love.

Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Grief Share Group, Journey of the Heart, will begin Season 4 on Wednesday, August 24th. If you have suffered a loss and are looking for a safe place to talk about sorrow and grief, please contact the parish office for more information. Nobody in our parish family grieves alone.

Stay after the Parade for the 2022 Oktoberfest celebration which will include children's games, activities, food, drinks, live music & so much more! Make a day of it for the whole family!

The Golden Wedding Anniversary Mass is scheduled to be held on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at Holy Name Cathedral. Couples celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year are invited to participate.

Registration Open Now!
We are currently accepting registration for Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Religious Education 2022-2023. New this year, we are consolidating all religious education classes at our parish school, Queen of the Rosary. Queen of the Rosary is located at 690 Elk Grove Blvd, next to Queen of the Rosary Church, about a mile East of St. Julian Eymard Church. We are pleased to be able to offer online registration for grades 1 through 8 once again this year.

On August 21st, OLBS will be hosting Christian music artist and story teller, PJ Anderson at St. Julian Eymard. Many teens are familiar with PJ from Catholic Heart Work Camp and we can't wait to see you at the concert...bring a friend, or two or three!

To bring comfort, share God’s Word and the Holy Eucharist, Ministers of Care make faith visits to the sick, homebound, hospitalized and elderly in our OLBS community. Care Ministers must be mandated and may participate in one or more of the following activities: visits to the Homebound, prayer services at AMITA, AMITA Rehab, Alexian Village or Promedica (formerly Manor Care.)
