Dear Friends,

"Wait."

That's the word that my 5-year-old thought she heard in a loud, strange voice as she woke up this morning. It was a dream, we told her. But I think it's more than a dream too; I think she's picking up on a mood. It's the season of waiting after all. Waiting for Christmas. Waiting for Hanukkah. Waiting for Kwanzaa. Waiting for the solstice, when the light begins to return. Waiting for the beginning of a new year. Christians observe this time as Advent (Dec. 1 through 24), a time of waiting and preparing for Christmas and the celebration of Jesus's birth (many also see this as a mirror for the waiting and preparing for the return of Christ at the Second Coming). You may be familiar with the tradition of the Advent calendar, with its daily treats. There are also Advent wreaths or crowns that have candles to light for each week leading up to Christmas. It's all about building the anticipation. So what are you looking forward to?

Something I am anticipating this week is our annual Christmas Tree Trimming Party! It's almost here! Please join us this Friday, December 6 beginning at 5:30 PM for relaxed, casual holiday fun, food, music and crafts. It's a family-friendly event, but open to all ages. Your choice of soups and bread are offered, and you are invited to bring a side or dessert to share if you want to. Bring an instrument, or add your voice and join in the jolly holiday sing along/jam session. Help us trim our fresh, fragrant Christmas tree and add your personal flair to the decorations. It wouldn't be the same without you. I hope you will come!

Can't wait to see you!
