Pine Island Families,

I hope everyone stayed safe during the storm. We are always here to support, so if your family needs anything, please do not hesitate to reach out to us!

October is upon us and filled with ways our families can be active in the school community. We kickoff this week with parent/teacher conferences. Although our immediate thoughts of parent/teacher conferences is to check in on the learning of our students and get to know our teachers a little more. This year may I encourage you to approach conferences with a celebration perspective.

Prior to conferences, check in with your student(s) and ask questions that will make the conference interactive with the teacher(s). Remember, conferences are the time to check in on learning and ask questions that will give opportunities to be active in your child's learning. When speaking with your student(s) about their learning, we encourage you to do it with loving care, so they don’t feel like you are looking for the things they do wrong, but focus on what they are doing well.

As a reminder time is limited during parent/teacher conferences, so please come prepared to get to know what your student is learning and with questions that can help you engage in the learning.

In addition to parent/teacher conferences in October, Unity Day on October 16 , promoting a "Bully Free" zone - everyone will be encouraged to wear Orange from head to toe and Red Ribbon Week starts Oct. 21 - Oct. 25. Below are the details so families can start planning their "spirit day" ideas and dress!!! This is a wonderful time to promote school spirit as our days are filled with excitement and fun around a great message - Drug Free!

Additionally, our PTO will be hosting Trunk or Treat, which has become a favorite Pine Island tradition. Make sure you check out the PTO Section of the newsletter for all the excitement!

A continued thank you goes to all our families for your constant involvement, support, and encouragement that you provide to our students each and every day. The partnership between school and home has never been more important. Thank you for trusting PIA!

Have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Riedl, Principal

SCHOOL WIDE NEWS

FAST Progress Monitoring(PM) #1 -

  •  As a reminder, PM1 covers content that students are expected to master by the end of the year for the subject and grade level assessed.
  • Therefore, for beginning of year benchmarks, your student may not yet be at grade level; however, this does not necessarily means that a student is not on track to succeed.

Kinder – 2nd grade students have completed the STAR assessment, which is the progress monitoring tool for Kinder – 2nd grade students in SJCSD.

  • As a reminder, this is just one part of a student’s learning data. It is important that we use multiple pieces of data to ensure we know the full scope of a learner.
  • STAR assessment reports are available to view in HAC.

3rd - 5th grade students have completed the FAST PM#1 assessment, which is the progress monitoring(PM) tool for the state of Florida.

  • Below is the information needed to access your student’s FAST assessment report.
  • FAST assessment reports are available to view in the Family Portal - https://fl-familyportal.cambiumast.com
  • Please take time to read through the FAST Facts to truly understand the report.
  • As a reminder, because this assessment is administered at the very beginning of the school year, it is designed to provide a baseline score so we can track student progress in learning the B.E.S.T. standards from Fall through Spring.

Middle School students have completed the FAST PM#1 assessment, which is the progress monitoring(PM) tool for the state of Florida.
