Inclement Weather
It's that time of year! If inclement weather requires Bishop Shanahan to be closed or to have a delayed opening, families will receive a text, voicemail, and email. Information will also be posted on the website and social media. Delays and closures are also reported to local media outlets. If the school building is closed due to weather, we will operate a "Flexible Instruction Day (FID)". During an FID, teachers will post assignments for their classes on Schoology by 10:00 AM. Teachers will announce a three-hour time period between 10:00 AM and 2:30 PM during which they will be available to answer questions. Assignments should take thirty (30) minutes for students to complete. Students will have five (5) days once school resumes to submit the assignments to their teachers (PLEASE NOTE: This 5-day window is meant to accommodate students who lose power. If your household has power, students should complete the assignment on the day it is assigned).

Norovirus Prevention
We want to remind everyone to take extra precautions as norovirus cases are on the rise. This virus spreads easily and causes symptoms like stomach upset, vomiting, and diarrhea. To keep our school community healthy, please encourage your child to:
- Wash hands frequently: Use soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating and after using the restroom.
- Stay home if feeling sick: If your child is experiencing any symptoms, please keep them home to rest and recover fully before returning to school.
Together, we can help prevent the spread and keep everyone safe and healthy. Thank you for your cooperation!

Nominate Your Favorite Teacher
All too often, teachers are unsung heroes. The Citadel Heart of Learning Award began 24 years ago in partnership with the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) to recognize local teachers who show dedication in and outside of the classroom. If you know a teacher who truly cares about their students and puts in the extra effort to enhance their educational experience, please submit a nomination here. The deadline for nominations is January 15.

Student Assessments
Bishop Shanahan High School utilizes Renaissance Star Assessments for benchmark testing. The assessments are administered three times a year (Fall, Winter, and Spring) in students' math and English classes. Results are used to measure growth, guide instruction, provide individualized feedback, and inform academic placement decisions. The Spring administration of Renaissance Star Assessments will take place the week of January 6th. While there is no advanced preparation required for these tests, students will need a fully charged Chromebook to complete them.
