HOPE DOES NOT DISAPPOINT.

This year Bishop Shanahan High School celebrates the spiritual theme "Hope does not disappoint," as we prepare for the Jubilee Year of Hope. Join us in prayer each Sunday as we share quotes from the Psalms, Saints, and more!

FROM THE PRESIDENT

EITC at BSHS

Did you know that over 33% of the Shanahan students require need based assistance. Both individuals and companies can participate in the program. It is a way to put your state tax dollars to good use supporting Catholic Education. Read more below in the "Support the Mission" section.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Spirit of America Youth Leadership Program

Spirit of America Youth Leadership is a transformative four-day residential program that engages high school students in grades 9-12 from across the country with the first principles of freedom. Through an inspiring four-day program at the Valley Forge campus, students experience mock congressional debates, participate in a free enterprise challenge, visit historical sites, and engage in interactive educational activities. This immersive experience allows students to develop their critical thinking and leadership skills while understanding their responsibilities as citizens. Students live on campus during the program, identifying opportunities for future contributions to society while creating new, lasting friendships and finding common ground as Americans with peers from across the country. The program is is sponsored 100% by the Connelly Foundation for your students (primarily 10-11 grade) to attend. Click here for brochure with more information.

STUDENT AFFAIRS OFFICE

Yearbook Orders Now Open

Online yearbook orders are now open! Click here to place your order. Cost is $70 now through December 14, 2024 and then $76 thereafter until May 31, 2025. Seniors should NOT place an order for yearbooks. Yearbooks are purchased for each senior as part of the graduation fee.

Junior Class Ring Orders

Attention Junior Families: It's not too late to order your class ring! Orders will be accepted through October 28. To place an order, please complete the order form found in the ring packet your student received at the Junior Class Ring meeting. If you need another form, please have your student stop by the Activities Office to pick one up.

Senior Graduation Materials

Please complete this, as well as select your Graduation Photo Pose for the yearbook by October 23. If you do not select a pose, one will be chosen for you. If you need assistance with this, please contact Mrs. Musick in the Activities Office.

STUDENT SERVICES OFFICE

Mycoplasma Pneumonia Notification

The Centers for Disease Control and the Pennsylvania Department of Health are observing a rise in pneumonia among children nationwide. Although pneumonia can be caused by many pathogens, these reports indicate that it is caused by a type of bacteria called Mycoplasma

pneumonia, which typically causes respiratory tract infections. While symptoms are generally mild, some infected children experience serious complications that may require hospital care. This link HERE will direct you to the letter provided by the PA Department of Health and CDC.

Winter Uniform

Thank you for your continued support in the wearing of the uniform. Bishop Shanahan's Winter Dress Code can be found in the Student Handbook on pages 32-33. All items can be found on the Flynn and O'Hara website.

The sweater is worn with a white short-sleeve or long-sleeve button-down shirt with a Shanahan tie, or white turtleneck with the official BSHS logo underneath. Gentlemen wear regulation Flynn and O’Hara khaki pants with a brown or black belt.

All students continue to wear regulation Bass Nubuck, Sebago Docksiders, or Leather Sperry Topsider shoes.

Students have reported drivers speeding in the lots before and after school. Please drive through the pickup lane all the way through to its conclusion.

Junior Mandated Physical Exam and Senior Mandated Meningococcal Vaccine

The Pennsylvania Department of Health, PA Code, 28 Health, Chapter 23 School Health, Sections 23.1 - 23.87 School Health Services, requires medical examinations upon entry to school and in grades K, 6, and 11. The 11th grade mandated physical exam can be performed within one year prior to the first day of 11th grade. This medical examination should be completed by your personal physician and may be a yearly physical, a driver’s license physical or a sports physical. This documentation was due by the first day of 11th grade. Your child will also need a second meningococcal conjugate vaccination (MCV4) by the first day of 12th grade. Documentation of this immunization is required in the nurse’s office prior to the first day of 12th grade. Please mail, email or fax (610)343-6220 your child’s 11th grade physical and immunization record to the nurse’s office at BSHS.

Electronic Device Policy

For security and good order of the school, cell phones must be kept in lockers during the regular school day. Cell phones may be used before the first bell and after the conclusion of 8th period, but must be turned off during the school day. Any cell phone found outside of the locker during that time will be confiscated. The student will receive 10 demerits and the device will be returned at the conclusion of the day. If an emergency exists at home, parents should contact the Student Services Office who will in turn notify the student. Ear buds or headphones are not permitted to be worn during the school day. Smart watches or other wearable smart devices are not permitted during testing. If a student uses a device to text or message, they will receive the same demerits as cell phone usage.

Grandparents Welcome

Grandparents are an important part of our BSHS community. We would love for them to come to events and receive our Shanahan magazine to find out all the wonderful things happening at their grandchild's school.

As a "Welcome to the Shanahan Community" gesture, we plan to send our Shanahan grandparents a card and a special picture of their freshman grandchild from the first week of school! We invite you to fill out the contact information HERE so that we can mail the cards to their homes. Space is provided to list the mother's parent(s) and the father's parent(s). If you need to enter additional grandparents at different addresses, please fill out the form a second time with the additional contact information.

Pictures can only be sent to those families who grant permission and complete the Google Form with the necessary contact information for mailing. We thank you for helping to keep this an ongoing tradition! Please contact Amy Seifert at aseifert@shanahan.org with any questions. Thank you!
