FAFSA Workshop 10/16
Bishop Shanahan High School will host a FAFSA Workshop from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) on October 16th at 6 PM in The BSHS Commons. PHEAA is a national provider of student financial aid services, serving millions of students and thousands of schools through its loan servicing, financial aid processing, outreach, and other student aid programs. Mr. Michael Burke will review important information on how to complete and file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). It's the most important part of the financial profile students/parents must complete to qualify for grants, scholarships, and assistance to pay for college.

FACTS Application Opens October 1
Any family seeking financial assistance for the '24-'25 school year - time is running out. Bishop Shanahan cannot offer financial assistance without a completed FACTS application. FACTS applications for the '24-'25 school year officially close on September 30th. Click here to learn more.

PSAT Day is October 9th
9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will report to school at the regular time on October 9 for the administration of the PSAT. Students will be dismissed after the PSAT. Most districts are bussing on the half-day schedule those who are not will be contacted. 12th grade students do not report to school on October 9; they are encouraged to use the day for college visits. The test is fully digital this year, so please ensure students bring their fully charged Chromebooks to school. Students will be preparing for tests in math and ELA classes, but are also encouraged do independent practice using practice tests that can be found here. Spirit of America Youth Leadership Program
Spirit of America Youth Leadership is a transformative four-day residential program that engages high school students in grades 9-12 from across the country with the first principles of freedom. Through an inspiring four-day program at the Valley Forge campus, students experience mock congressional debates, participate in a free enterprise challenge, visit historical sites, and engage in interactive educational activities. This immersive experience allows students to develop their critical thinking and leadership skills while understanding their responsibilities as citizens. Students live on campus during the program, identifying opportunities for future contributions to society while creating new, lasting friendships and finding common ground as Americans with peers from across the country. The program is is sponsored 100% by the Connelly Foundation for your students (primarily 10-11 grade) to attend. Click here for brochure with more information.

Junior Class Rings
Junior parents and students: If you missed the Jostens virtual meeting last Monday and have any questions about ring orders, please contact Josten's at 215-542-8170 or email keri.casey.office@jostens.com. All ring orders should be placed during the lunch period this Tuesday, October 8 with a $100 down payment. Please make checks payable to Jostens. All major credit cards are also accepted for your ring down payment. A Jostens representative will be present in the cafeteria to answer any additional questions. Students who are scheduled for a lab during their lunch period that day should come to the cafeteria at the beginning of the lab to place their orders.
All juniors should have received a packet with information for ordering their school ring during homeroom on Sept. 26. Those who need additional class ring forms can access the forms here:

Club Jump In Week
Did you know we have over 30 clubs here at Bishop Shanahan? Check out all our school clubs at lunch each day this coming week. Club representatives will be set up in the main lobby with information about their club and how you can "jump in" and join. All clubs are open to all students, so please stop by and get involved!

Progress Reports
Progress Reports will be emailed on Tuesday, October 8th, for any student with a grade below 72.

Winter Uniforms
Winter Uniforms begin on Tuesday, October 8th. Bishop Shanahan's Winter Dress Code can be found in the Student Handbook on pages 32-33. All items can be found on the Flynn and O'Hara website.
Ladies wear a green crew neck pullover, sweater vest, or ¼ zip pullover, with a white short or long-sleeve banded-bottom oxford blouse or white turtlenecks with the BSHS logo under the sweater. Ladies will also have their Official Flynn & O’Hara Skort (no more than 3” above the knee) with dark green, opaque white, gray, or black tights.
Gentlemen wear a regulation V-neck green school sweater, vest, or ¼ zip pullover. The sweater is worn with a white short-sleeve or long-sleeve button-down shirt with a Shanahan tie, or white turtleneck with the official BSHS logo underneath. Gentlemen wear regulation Flynn and O’Hara khaki pants with a brown or black belt.
All students continue to wear regulation Bass Nubuck, Sebago Docksiders, or Leather Sperry Topsider shoes.

Forgotten Items
We discourage bringing forgotten articles to school to be delivered. However, if it is necessary to bring items for your child, make sure his or her name is on the bag or item. Kindly make sure all shoes are placed in a bag with a name on it.

Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones are to be kept in student lockers during the school day; they are not permitted to carry a phone on their person, in a pencil case, or in a bag. See handbook p. 31.

Bus Loop
All individuals driving to Bishop Shanahan High School are not to drive in the bus loop from 7:15 AM to 8:45 AM and 2:15 PM to 3:15 PM. Please use the "Pick Up Lane" located at the second entrance off of Woodbine Road to drop off and pick up students. All students are to walk on the sidewalks during dismissal and to stay out of the Bus Loop.

Nurse's Office
The nurse's office has seen an upward trend of students coming in the morning ill and being sent home. If students are ill, they should remain at home to help prevent the spread of illnesses at Bishop Shanahan.

Technical College High School Presentation
SOPHOMORES & PARENTS/GUARDIANS:
A presentation for the Chester County Technical College High School Brandywine Campus is scheduled for Thursday, October 24, beginning at 8:30 AM. Sarah Robinson, Program Admissions Manager at TCHS, will present the programs available and explain the application process to the sophomore class. Parents are welcome to attend if your student is interested in attending for the 2025-2026 school year.
JUNIORS & PARENTS/GUARDIANS:
On Thursday, October 24, Sarah Robinson, Program Admissions Manager for TCHS, will be meeting with Junior students who are interested in the Allied Health Program at 9:15 AM, and the Teacher Leadership Academy at 10:00 AM. These are senior only programs and are for students interested in healthcare or educational professions. Students will receive a link via email to sign up to attend either session this week. Parents are welcome to attend.

EITC at BSHS
The Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program allows Pennsylvania businesses and individuals to redirect their state tax dollars to support Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.The program is a win-win in that schools receive 100% of your contribution and you receive a 90% tax credit. College Admissions Visits
All students are welcome to connect with college and university admissions officers during their lunch period throughout the school year. The admissions officers are hosted at their own individual table in the Cafeteria, bringing a wealth of information about their respective school, answering students' questions, and providing brochures to interested students. Franklin Yard is thrilled to be offering a BISHOP SHANAHAN-exclusive SAT Masterclass in Spring of 2025, where students will learn how to masterfully navigate both the test content and the adaptive digital format. Students will come out of the course equipped with the essential knowledge and strategies needed to excel on test day.
