FACTS Application Opens October 1


Any family seeking financial assistance for the '24-'25 school year - time is running out. Bishop Shanahan cannot offer financial assistance without a completed FACTS application. FACTS applications for the '24-'25 school year officially close on September 30th. Click here to learn more.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Back to School Forms are Overdue!


Back to School Forms were due September 23. If you have not already done so, please complete the forms online by following these detailed instructions.

PSAT Day is October 9th


9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will report to school at the regular time on October 9 for the administration of the PSAT. Dismissal will be at approximately 11:20 AM. Following dismissal, students waiting for buses report to the cafeteria. Please check with your local district regarding what time your particular bus will arrive. 12th grade students do not report to school on October 9; they are encouraged to use the day for college visits. The test is fully digital this year, so please make sure students bring their fully charged Chromebooks to school. Students will be preparing for tests in math and ELA classes, but are also encouraged do independent practice using practice tests that can be found here. Spirit of America Youth Leadership Program


Spirit of America Youth Leadership is a transformative four-day residential program that engages high school students in grades 9-12 from across the country with the first principles of freedom. Through an inspiring four-day program at the Valley Forge campus, students experience mock congressional debates, participate in a free enterprise challenge, visit historical sites, and engage in interactive educational activities. This immersive experience allows students to develop their critical thinking and leadership skills while understanding their responsibilities as citizens. Students live on campus during the program, identifying opportunities for future contributions to society while creating new, lasting friendships and finding common ground as Americans with peers from across the country. The program is is sponsored 100% by the Connelly Foundation for your students (primarily 10-11 grade) to attend. Click here for brochure with more information.

Homecoming Game Tickets Pre-sale!


Avoid waiting in line to buy your ticket at the game! We will be selling Homecoming game tickets during all lunches Thursday 10/3 and Friday 10/4, and after school until 3:15 PM on both Thursday and Friday. Credit/Debit cards and cash are accepted during lunches and Tap-to-Pay, credit/debit cards, and cash are accepted after school. All tickets are $6 each and students can buy for themselves and their families. Tickets are not needed for those age 65 and older, and age 5 and under.

Homecoming Dance Tickets


Come celebrate Shanahan's "Homecoming around the World!" Our Homecoming Dance is Saturday, October 5. Dance tickets are $25 each and must be purchased online. Follow this link to order your Homecoming Dance Tickets today! Ticket sales will run until Wednesday, October 2.

Homecoming Week Events


This is Homecoming Week, and we have many exciting events in store for our Shanahan community! See the attached flyer for important Homecoming Week information, including scheduled events and dress down day details.

Club Jump-In Week


Did you know we have over 30 clubs here at Bishop Shanahan? Check out all our school clubs at lunch each day this coming week. Club representatives will be set up in the main lobby with information about their club and how you can "jump in" and join. All clubs are open to all students, so please stop by and get involved!

Junior Class Rings


All juniors should have received a packet with information for ordering their school ring during homeroom last week. Those who need additional class ring forms can access the forms here:

Junior parents are asked to review the information in the packets and encouraged to join a Virtual Parent Ring Meeting on Monday, September 30, at 6:30 pm where a Josten's representative will explain the procedure for ordering school rings and will be available to answer any questions. Parents may join the Zoom meeting with this link (Zoom Meeting ID: 968 1225 9949). This Zoom meeting will also be recorded.


All ring orders should be placed during your student's lunch period next Tuesday, October 8, with a $100 down payment. Please make checks payable to Josten's. All major credit cards are also accepted for your ring down payment. A Josten's representative will be present in the cafeteria to answer any additional questions. Students who are scheduled for a lab during their lunch period that day should come to the cafeteria at the beginning of the lab to place their orders.

STUDENT SERVICES OFFICE

11th Grade Mandated Physical Exam and 12th Grade Mandated Meningococcal Vaccine


The Pennsylvania Department of Health, PA Code, 28 Health, Chapter 23 School Health, Sections 23.1 - 23.87 School Health Services, requires medical examinations upon entry to school and in grades K, 6, and 11. The 11th grade mandated physical exam can be performed within one year prior to the first day of 11th grade. This medical examination should be completed by your personal physician and may be a yearly physical, a driver’s license physical or a sports physical. This documentation was due by the first day of 11th grade.

Your child will also need a second meningococcal conjugate vaccination (MCV4) by the first day of 12th grade. Documentation of this immunization is required in the nurse’s office prior to the first day of 12th grade.

Please mail, email (lhart@shanahan.org) or fax (610-343-6220) your child’s 11th grade physical and immunization record to the nurse’s office at BSHS.

School Uniforms


Please help to make sure that your child is in proper uniform. This includes gentlemen being clean shaven with hair above the collar, and ladies having up to one small set of earrings and their skorts to the appropriate length of a maximum 3 inches above the knee. Forty Hours


All are invited to join us for the opening Mass of our school celebration of Forty Hours Devotions at 10:00 AM this Sunday, September 29, 2024. A continental breakfast will be available after Mass. Please RSVP using this link.

Kairos 72


Registration for the 12th grade Kairos weekend retreat is now open. Kairos 72 will be from October 18th - 21st at Elverson Retreat House. You may complete the online registration form on the school website HERE reserve your place.

Holy Hour


All are welcome to attend a Holy Hour in the school chapel on October 2nd at 7:00 PM. The evening will include Eucharistic Adoration with Praise and Worship Music. There will be light refreshments available after the devotions.

EITC at BSHS


The Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program allows Pennsylvania businesses and individuals to redirect their state tax dollars to support Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.The program is a win-win in that schools receive 100% of your contribution and you receive a 90% tax credit. Franklin Yard is thrilled to be offering a BISHOP SHANAHAN-exclusive SAT Masterclass in Spring of 2025, where students will learn how to masterfully navigate both the test content and the adaptive digital format. Students will come out of the course equipped with the essential knowledge and strategies needed to excel on test day.
