PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
We look forward to meeting with you about your child's progress this year. Conferences will be held Thursday, Nov 17, in the evening and Friday, Nov 18, throughout the morning and afternoon. There will be no school for students on Friday, Nov 18.
You will receive an email from your child's homeroom teacher to schedule a conference for the week of 10/31 - 11/4. You will sign up for that conference digitally. Jefferson staff will continue to reach out to you ahead of November 17th and 18th to schedule a meeting. Note: Please do not sign up if you have already scheduled your child's conference with an interpreter.
A planning sheet is below to help you prepare for your child's conference. Feel free to use this document to guide your conference conversations.
If you do not receive an email from your child's homeroom teacher by the week of Nov 7, or you need assistance reaching your child's homeroom teacher, please contact the Jefferson office at (608)663-6403.

Lussier Food Bank is Available to all MMSD Families
The Lussier Community Center Food Bank is stocked with fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, and canned goods. Any MMSD family is welcome to come and get a bag or two of groceries. You must show an ID and provide verification that you have a student in the MMSD. Hours are Saturday mornings, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., and Wednesday evenings, from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Additionally, they are open for "Grab and Go" items (bread, fruits, and veggies) from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. They are closed from 2:00 - 4:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Winter Orchestra Concert
You are invited to attend the Winter Orchestra Concert on Wednesday, December 7th, at 7:30 pm. The concert will feature the 7th & 8th-grade orchestras at Jefferson Middle School and also the Concert & Philharmonic Orchestras at Vel Phillips Memorial High School. The concert will be held in the Auditorium at Vel Phillips Memorial High School and is free and open to the public.

It's Getting Chilly Outside!
Our health office is looking for donations of gently used clean clothing. Hoodies, sweatshirts, athletic pants, and leggings are most needed. We can also use socks, shoes, mittens, coats, gloves, and hats. You can drop these items off in the office.

Thank you to the many families that helped make our first annual Hispanic Heritage Month staff lunch an overwhelming success! The staff dined on delicious dishes and treats, celebrating the various Hispanic cultures. The festivity took place on Friday, Oct 10th; it was an excellent way for Jefferson staff to come together and end the week!

COLLEGE AND CAREER WEEK
To promote college, career, and community readiness here at Jefferson, we will have a College & Career Week at the beginning of November. During the week, the students will participate in activities meant to inform them about their choices beyond high school, learn about our staff's college & career experiences, and have the opportunity to participate in some Spirit Week activities. To add some extra motivation and excitement, students who complete a College Bingo activity will be able to enter a drawing at the end of the week for gift cards. We have two opportunities for donations if you are interested!
Gift Cards for Activity Participants: As mentioned above, students will participate in a College Bingo activity throughout the week and can enter their bingo card into a drawing for a gift card to local stores and restaurants. If you are interested in donating a gift card for this drawing, we would appreciate cards from $5 to $10 for local stores or restaurants that students can use.
College Gear for Scholars: During College and Career week, we will have Spirit Day, where students will be asked to wear College gear or college colors. We know that some students won't have college gear in their closets, so the next time you are cleaning out or going through your closets, if you come across any college wear that you don't wear anymore, you could bring it into Jefferson so that we could give them out to students! Also, we would accept if you have the means and would like to donate new college gear. We are looking for clothes of any size.
Please send your donations with your scholar to drop off in the main office if you are interested in donating. Please also label your donations "College & Career Week." Thank you so much for considering!

SEMANA DE LA UNIVERSIDAD Y LA CARRERA
Como una forma de promover la preparación universitaria, profesional y comunitaria aquí en Jefferson, tendremos una Semana Universitaria y Profesional a principios de noviembre. Durante la semana, los estudiantes participarán en actividades destinadas a informarles sobre sus opciones más allá de la escuela secundaria, aprenderán sobre las experiencias universitarias y profesionales de nuestro personal y tendrán la oportunidad de participar en algunas actividades de la Semana del Espíritu. UPDATES FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE
We don’t want our kids to miss anything this year, so make sure your child is caught up on all their vaccinations. MMSD is hosting two vaccine clinics in collaboration with SSM Health for students, families, and staff!
Thursday 11/3/22, 3:30-7:00 pm at Emerson Elementary School
Saturday 11/5/22 9:00am - 1:00pm at Memorial High School
Both clinics will offer the following vaccines:
5-11 years old: Covid Primary Pfizer series 1st dose or 2nd dose, Bivalent Booster
12 years and older & Adults: 1st dose, 2nd dose, Bivalent Booster
Influenza (Flu) vaccines- ages 5+
Tdap vaccine - ages 11+
These clinics are free. SSM and the other insurance providers are working together to cover the cost of the clinics to keep the events free of charge. Please bring your insurance card with you to the clinic.
About COVID-19 Vaccines
COVID-19 vaccines available in the United States are effective at protecting people from getting seriously ill, being hospitalized, and dying. As with other vaccine-preventable diseases, you are protected best from COVID-19 when you stay up to date with the recommended vaccinations, including recommended boosters. The CDC recommends that all individuals over 6 months get vaccinated against COVID-19. You are eligible to receive the updated bivalent booster if it has been at least two months since your last Covid vaccine (initial series or booster).

BIG GAMES!
On Thursday, October 13th, Jefferson students participated in an event called Big Games! Each student chose and was assigned an event to participate in. There was basketball, kickball, Minecraft, Trivia, Art, and many more! This was a great opportunity for students and staff to build community in a non-academic setting. Dropping Off Students Before School
Jefferson Parking Lot Issues
Due to the renovation at Memorial High School, we have lost several Jefferson staff parking spots. When dropping your student off, please do not wait in a parking spot; these are meant for our staff. Upon entering Jefferson’s drive off Gammon Rd, you will turn right and follow the marked signs for traffic pattern/flow on the south side of the building.
