Jr. High/High School - Bimonthly Newsletter
10/7/20
From Mike Olson, Jr. High/Senior High Asst. Principal:

I’m not super handy with projects around the house. I’m not a putz, so I can get things done, but it’s not natural for me. For example, when I have a home project to work on, I typically see “installs in minutes!” optimistically printed on the packaging. Which is kind of true.

For me, this is what I read:

Package: “Installs in minutes!*

Mike’s brain: *If you’re Mike Olson, this means 90 minutes, not five.

This is how it feels running a school in a pandemic. It’s the Year of the Asterisk.
  • Great to see you!” *Your eyes at least; wish I could see the rest of your face.
  • It’s fun to be with friends again.” *Just stay away from them if you would.
  • It’s great teaching in-person again” *Well, those that are here anyway.
  • How’s it going?” *”Pretty well overall, except for (insert COVID-based lament here)…”

We’ve taken many steps forward, and by God’s leading and grace, we’re getting better every day. We’re grateful for the opportunity to work with the kids who are back on campus and will continue to do our best to provide an excellent online experience for students at home. Like everything else in the Year of the Asterisk, we’re not where we want to be, but are getting there. Thanks for your partnership.

Reminders about Magnus Health app
From Kevin Thomas, Operations & Tech. Director

Thank you to everyone who is diligently filling out the health app each day before school. Your cooperation and support is greatly appreciated!

Remember:

  • We are requiring students to wear masks on campus. There will be non-mask wearing times in the day, including lunch and P.E. The same requirement applies to all staff and faculty at the Clyde Hill Campus.
  • We are requiring parents/guardians to fill out a health screening via the Magnus Health app before arriving at school every day. The same requirement applies to all staff and faculty at the Clyde Hill Campus.

This is mandatory from the the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and applies to every person entering our campuses. (continues next column)
PLEASE GO TO:

We have posted instructions under Resource Documents.

The instructions are called: "Parent-Student Health Screening Instructions.”

Please read and follow the instructions above in the Family Portal. The Magnus site does not include these instructions.

These instructions will help you setup the app. Once you setup the app, you will need to answer the Heath Screening questions every school day for each student on your Magnus app.

To access Magnus Health (through RenWeb), Click on "Student" and then click on "Medical". This will take you to you Magnus. Then please follow the instructions for setting up the phone app.

Contact Kevin Thomas at kevin.thomas@bellevuechristian.org with any questions.

Thank you for your patience and flexibilty as we put these new procedures into practice on the Clyde Hill Campus for the safety of our student body, staff & faculty.
Viking Seniors
Dear 2021 Seniors and Parents-

The yearbook staff is excited to begin collecting information for our senior portrait pages! Although we don’t know what changes are ahead for the rest of the 20-21 yearbook in this unprecedented school year, we are certain that the senior pages will remain, as they have in the past, a place for you to be celebrated. To achieve these pages we need your help! If you have not submitted your information already, please read the below instructions AND watch this video.

Seniors, we need you to share your favorite memories, activities, thank yous/shout outs…. Do this by clicking this link and filling out the form on the left side of the page.

Parents, we need you to share a childhood picture and a short message for your student…. Do this by clicking this link and filling out the form on the right side of the page. Please note that you need to upload your message and photo together, so be sure you have both ready before trying to submit.

Seniors and Parents, IF you would like to submit a professional senior photo…. You or your photographer can do this by clicking the link below and filling out the form at the bottom of the page. THIS IS AN OPTIONAL FORM, students can wait and use the photo taken by Vakker whenever we return to in-person learning.

We are hoping to have these submitted by Dec. 11. We also know this year has a tendency to throw us curveballs, so if you have a special circumstance, please email us so we can work with you and make sure every senior is represented well. Questions? Email Yearbook Adviser Mandy Fiechtner (mandy.fiechtner@bellevuechristian.org).

Announcements & Reminders
PSAT Testing – Sat. 10/17 from 7:45am – 12:30pm*.
BCS offers the PSAT to all 10th and 11th grade students. Please email Amy Fox by Monday, Oct. 12 if your child will not attend. This is essential so we can plan for spacing and room use. Information about preparation and what to bring on testing day can found on the College Board website. Students will receive a PSAT preparation booklet PDF in their English class in early October. Hard copies are available for pickup at the front desk. On the day of the test, students need to bring two No. 2 pencils with erasers, an approved calculator, and a government-issued photo ID if available. If your child attended a different school last year, a photo id from that school is acceptable. All health measures are required, including masks and social distancing.

*The test runs about 3 ¾ hours, and will begin after several minutes of instruction. The ending time will vary.*

Parent Portal
Our Parent Portal is your best go-to resource as a parent. If you still have questions, please call our Jr. High / High School Office or email us. If you don't see something there that would be helpful for parents, please let us know. by sending us an email. We are happy to help!

Student Email Accounts
Students should get in the habit of checking their BCS email regularly. While Teams is a great day-to-day tool for classes, communication outside of the classroom is via email.
