Welcome (back) to Sunnyside Elementary School!

What a great start to the school year! We are excited to have our students and staff energizing our classrooms and hallways. We kicked off the 2024-2025 school year with our first ever all school welcome back assembly. It was a great opportunity to gather together as a community of learners, have students meet our staff and welcome everyone back. At the start of the year, we focus on teaching and practicing our expectations across the building. Students participated in expectation stations that focused on what it means to show respect, responsibility, perseverance and teamwork in our cafeteria, hallways, bathrooms, on the playground, at dismissal and on our buses. Classroom teachers are spending time teaching routines and procedures in the classroom as well.

It has been amazing to spend time getting to know the students, their interests and fostering positive relationships. The smiles, laughter and stories our students bring with them are incredible.

We are excited for another year of learning and making memories together!

Highlights from last week.

We are learning about respect!

We are excited to share that we will be using a program called PurposeFull People this year. This program teaches skills that will help students be successful in school and life.

PurposeFull People is more than just a set of lessons – it is a partnership between schools and families to create a place where students feel like they belong and learn skills that help them be the best they can be!

The program has three main goals for students:

  • Be Kind: Social skills like listening, friendship, solving conflicts and leadership. These skills are taught alongside empathy, respect and cooperation
  • Be Strong: Skills that help students focus, stay organized and set goals. These skills are taught alongside responsibility, courage and perseverance
  • Be Well: Skills that help students handle their emotions and deal with stress. These skills are taught alongside gratitude, honesty and creativity.

Each month we will focus on a skill. This month’s focus is respect. We hosted an all school assembly introducing respect. Respect is seeing the value in all people and things & treating them with care. We need to show respect to ourselves, others and our school.

These skills align with our Raider Way values. Show respect and responsibility, use perseverance and teamwork...

It’s the RAIDER WAY!
