Thankful for opportunities to come together in community! And more to come ...

What an amazing two weeks it has been here at Sunnyside! Last Thursday and Friday, we had the wonderful opportunity to host "Breakfast with Your Raider" for our students, parents, and loved ones. Over the course of those two days, we had the pleasure of serving breakfast to more than 500 attendees. It was a great chance for families to come together, socialize, laugh and enjoy each other’s company within the school community. It also gave our staff the opportunity to thank you for all that you do as parents and for sharing your incredible children with us each day.

This week our second and third graders kicked off their swimming unit in PE. Each year Mr. Wendorf has the opportunity to take our second through fifth graders to the Pulaski Community Pool as part of their PE instruction. Second and third graders participate in lessons focusing on swim stroke fundamentals. Our fourth and fifth graders learn all about advanced water safety and practice their swim strokes during their lessons.

Our kindergarten and first grade students took part in their first SRO lesson of the year with Officer Josh Nickodem. Kindergarten students were introduced to Office Josh and the role of our SRO at school, while our first graders learned about the "Check First" rule.

Help welcome our new staff to Sunnyside!

Sunnyside Squads

Last Friday, we kicked off our first Sunnyside Squads event of the year! To promote learning together as a school community, our squads meet monthly. Each squad is led by one or two staff members and includes students from kindergarten through fifth grade. This month's focus was on getting to know one another and building connections. Next month, we'll explore the theme of responsibility. Our squads will culminate with a fun-filled field day at the end of the year.

Our fifth graders have the chance to take on leadership roles as mentors and role models for the younger students. It's heartwarming to see them guiding our kindergarteners and first graders, ensuring they reach their squad locations and return to their classrooms safely.
