Attendance Matters: What Parents Need to Know
We all know that some days are better than others – illnesses set in, appointments need to be made, and sometimes family trips are planned to create wonderful memories. However, attendance in school is important too. Every day that our students are here, they’re learning, building lifelong skills and making friends.
In Wisconsin, school attendance is crucial not only for academic success but also for compliance with state law. Wisconsin law mandates that students attend school regularly, emphasizing the importance of consistent engagement in learning. In the Pulaski Community School District, students are allotted ten parent excused days per school year. Beyond those ten days, doctor’s notes will be required to excuse the absence. If a doctor’s note is not provided, the absence will be marked as unexcused. According to state law, a student will be considered habitually absent once five unexcused days have accumulated.
Regular attendance fosters better academic performance, enhances social skills, and prepares students for future opportunities. Furthermore, schools and families must work together to ensure students understand the value of education, as excessive absenteeism can lead to legal consequences for both students and parents. Prioritizing school attendance is vital for personal growth and community development. Thank you for your support with consistent attendance!
