Shaping the Future: Developing a Learner Profile for Success

Recently, a dedicated group of students, parents, community members, teachers and school leaders collaborated to develop a Future-Ready Learner Profile for our students. This profile aims to define the essential skills, knowledge and competencies students need to be college, career and community ready as they progress through our school system and graduate from PCSD.

The learner profile serves as a blueprint for designing curriculum, instruction and assessments, emphasizing not only academic achievement but also lifelong learning habits and skills. These include critical thinking, teamwork, digital literacy, adaptability and emotional intelligence — key abilities needed to navigate both today’s and tomorrow’s challenges.

Drawing on research, real-world insights and best practices, the team created a comprehensive approach that fosters both academic growth and personal resilience. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to this meaningful and forward-thinking initiative!

The Knowledge-A-Thon: Where Learning Meets Achievement

The Hillcrest Knowledge-A-Thon was an exciting event that celebrated learning and academic achievement! Over three weeks, students studied grade-appropriate questions and answers, preparing to showcase their knowledge during the event using an engaging iPad app. Every participant was recognized for their hard work and dedication with a Star Student bracelet and a certificate highlighting their achievement, making it a fun and supportive celebration of learning.

A special mention to Ms. Doell's class for achieving the highest percentage of correct answers — an impressive reflection of their hard work.

Thank you to all the parents and students for their dedication in studying and preparing for the event. Your support and effort made the Knowledge-A-Thon a success!

Practicing Gratitude as a Family: A Jar Full of Thanks

This month, we’ve been focusing on Gratitude! One way to think about Gratitude is “choosing to appreciate the people and things in our lives." Practicing Gratitude can increase our well-being and even our happiness!

As we move into the holiday season, here’s a simple activity to help your family reflect on gratitude together:

Find a place in your home to display a glass jar. Cut small slips of paper and place them next to the jar. Use this jar to collect special people, places, events, and memories that your family is thankful for. Set aside time each week to add new slips of Gratitude to the jar, and assist students with writing or drawing their thoughts if needed. If you’re having a challenging day or just need a reminder of the good things in life, pull out the slips of Gratitude and read them aloud together. It’s a great way to focus on the positive moments and strengthen your family’s sense of thankfulness.

The Pulaski School District’s Title VI team, in collaboration with the Oneida YES program and Oneida Reads, will be hosting a Fall Family Night on Monday, December 9th from 5:00-6:30 at Hillcrest Elementary. Please join us to learn more about the Oneida Reads initiative and how our teams are collaboratively working together to improve reading scores for our Native American students.

A light meal will be provided followed by activities for students and at home support guidance for parents/ caregivers. If you are interested, please RSVP to Alissa Tetzlaff, aatetzlaff@pulaskischools.org or 920-822-6021, by Monday, December 2. We look forward to seeing you there!
