The power of Hillcrest's PTO

Hillcrest's Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) plays a crucial role in supporting our school by fostering collaboration between parents, teachers and myself. Through their fundraising efforts, volunteer activities and community events, the PTO provides Hillcrest with essential resources that enhance the educational experience for our students. Whether it’s funding new playground equipment, flexible seating options or sponsoring field trips, the PTO helps bridge the gap between our school's needs and available resources.

The PTO's involvement not only strengthens our sense of community but also encourages greater parent engagement in school activities, which ultimately benefits our students. We are incredibly grateful for the PTO's unwavering support, as well as for the dedication of all the staff, whose hard work and commitment ensure the success of our students. Thank you for everything you do to help make Hillcrest a better place to learn and grow.

Students recognized for being respectful in September

Each month, we host an all-school meeting to recognize students who have been nominated by their teachers or peers for demonstrating the word of the month. The pictures above highlight two students running through the tunnel, along with all students who were nominated for showing respect during September.

Responsibility is one of three traits we will focus on throughout the year to help students "Be Strong."

Mrs. Evans and Ms. Hill help grow our readers

This year, we welcome Mrs. Evans and Ms. Hill. They join Mrs. Bero in playing a vital role in helping students with reading by providing individualized attention, whether in small groups or one-on-one. They use fun activities to improve reading skills and track students' progress, then sharing that information with teachers.

By building positive relationships, they help students feel more confident in their abilities. Overall, their support is essential for creating an inclusive and welcoming environment where all students can grow as readers.

Nominations for the 32nd Annual Golden Apple Awards are now open through 3 p.m. on Oct. 25. Since its inception, 54 PCSD teachers have been awarded Golden Apples, including two current teachers who won while at different districts and one who won as both an individual and as a team member.
