Holiday Concert - Winter 2024

Preparing for our holiday concert is always an exciting – and occasionally stressful – time of year! There is a great deal of anticipation and necessary expertise that comes with helping our young performers get ready for the big day.

The joy of seeing your child shine on stage is truly rewarding and must bring back memories of your own childhood days! We are very aware of the effort it takes to practice songs, coordinate props and encourage stage confidence.

Not every child likes to sing and many will choose to play instruments or give their attention to developing other talents and they grow. We know that while some children eagerly anticipate singing and performing, others may feel a bit more reserved about stepping into the spotlight. Every child’s unique personality and comfort level is valued here, and our goal is to create an experience that feels inclusive and positive for all.

Thank you for celebrating the magic of the season and the talents of our incredible music teacher, staff and students.

Family Engagement Night - February 6 (4:30 - 6:30 p.m.)

*THIS REPLACES APTT*

For the past two years, Lannoye invited families to participate in a new parent engagement format called Academic Parent Teacher Teams (APTT). The premise was to involve parents in setting goals for their students around skills that students typically struggle with each year, practicing those skills at home and celebrating growth over time.

Engaging parents in their child's learning is an essential component of student success. Without the parent-school connection, there can be inconsistency and concerns may be addressed too late. We want to children to have a healthy and positive concept of school and learning. Forming a partnership with you helps your child build confidence and thrive.

We are no longer using the APTT program. But, as we move forward with family/parent engagement nights, we still want to share how students learn – and provide information and resources that are helpful for you as you support your child(ren) at home. We'd like students to attend with you to talk about the things they are working on and the learning process they took to master skills. Please consider attending on February 6.

Potential Negative Impact of Video Games

We have been studying the positive and negative effects of gaming on the brain and learning. As educators, we know that technology is important when used in meaningful ways. While incorporating educational games into the classroom can improve engagement and make difficult subjects more accessible, there are a number of potential negative effects we are learning about:

Concerns:

Sleep Disruption

  • Gaming can interfere with sleep patterns, impacting attention, memory and overall academic performance.

Aggression and Behavioral Issues

  • Some studies suggest that prolonged exposure to violent video games may lead to increased aggression or desensitization to violence.

Social Isolation

  • While multiplayer games foster interaction, excessive solo gaming can lead to social withdrawal and less face-to-face interaction.

Consider This:

Time Management

  • Encouraging students to balance gaming with academics and physical activity is essential. Parents can set time limits and parental controls.

Parental/Teacher Involvement

  • Parents and educators can guide game choices and set boundaries to ensure gaming complements learning rather than hinders it.

Educational Games

  • Promoting games that align with essential skills can harness the benefits of gaming while reinforcing academic and life skills. Find games that promote creativity and problem solving.
