Putting students on a path to success

At our most recent professional development day, Lannoye teachers dug into the district goals that are focused on improving literacy, math and behavior. Each grade level team developed an action plan to help support these goals.

After working hard to develop key action steps that would support students in areas such as oral fluency and comprehension in reading, number sense and fact fluency in math, and intentional and explicit teaching of expectations across all school settings. We are excited about our plan and will continue to have regular progress monitoring to ensure we are moving students forward.

At tonight’s family engagement meeting (and going forward), we will be asking you to be part of the learning process by supporting your child’s learning goal(s)! Your child’s teacher will be sharing specifically what you can be doing at home to support reading, math and engagement. We are excited to see you tonight!

If you did not attend, please contact your student's teacher for this information.

Thank you,

Coding curriculum

As technology advances, so must our teaching! Coding is the process of writing instructions for a computer to follow. The coding curriculum at Lannoye is implemented across all grade levels.

Starting in kindergarten and first grade, students write code by clicking and dragging blocks to program a character to do something. For example, in an Angry Bird lesson, they program the bird to get to the pig by using the cardinal directions. This activity incorporates coding and map skills. At the higher grade levels, students write code to program a character called The Artist to draw and create 2D and 3D shapes, like squares, cubes and even snowflakes. This lesson ties in computer programming with mathematics.

Coding skills are needed for many growing career paths, and this curriculum is just one of many ways PCSD is preparing students for the future.
